“Nikita, I did look for you when I turned of age. I was a rogue for ten years so I didn’t have a way of looking for you then.” The hurt and anger in her eyes made me wonder what she was thinking.

She stepped back, letting me off the rock wall. Her brows furrowed as she stared at me. “What do you mean? You were a rogue. Were you not always an alpha?”

“I was. But my pack was overtaken by my uncle who then put me in a dungeon. I escaped and was a rogue for ten years.”Tell her about Kalila. You need to be honest with her.Aloysius was right, but how do I tell her I had stopped looking for her?

“I’ve heard rumors about you taking a chosen. Is that true?” Nikita’s hands went to her mouth after that. Like she didn’t mean to ask or even talk about it. Someone in this pack must know that I had taken Kalila.

I sighed and ran my hands over my face before I locked my gaze back to hers. “Yes, I took a chosen. Because I was already the Alpha of my pack and I needed a mate. I looked for you for years before I took her.”

“How long exactly?”

“Seven.”

“I’m confused. How have you looked for me for seven years? When you were rogue for ten?” Nikita crossed her arms over her very naked chest. I hadn’t even looked at her since we started talking. She didn’t even have tan lines.

Harlen had found out from the Shonkinite beta that Nikita was twenty-five. Which was the reason I couldn’t find her when I started my search at eighteen. She was just a pup. If I had just kept looking for her, and waited I would have found her. But that would also mean that my uncle would probably still be alive.

“Why are you confused? I’m ten years older than you.”

Chapter Fifteen

Nikita

That’s the reason he couldn’t find me when he shifted for the first time. I was just a pup when he started looking for me. If I had been looking for my mate for seven years and didn’t find them, I’d probably have done the same. So, how could I feel like this for what he had done?

“Nikita, if I had just been stronger and waited a little longer. None of this would’ve happened. I was weak.” His voice wasn’t his confident tone and when he caressed my face, I couldn’t help but lean into those sparks.

“If she was still alive. Would you know I was yours?” my voice cracked because I thought I already knew the answer.

“No, and that’s why the Moon Goddess punished me. She allowed my chosen and unborn pup to be taken from me by my uncle. Because she knew you’d go through this life without me.” Fin pulled me close to him and my body ignited with sparks and desire. I wanted him just as much as Enyo did. The sadness in his aura and touch made me wonder. Was he sad for me or for her?

“I’m sorry Nikita. But I promise to be the best mate for you. To take care of you even when you don’t need it. That and because I won’t screw up twice is why I won’t reject you.” With one hand on my face and the other on my lower back, Fin pulled me flush against him. Even though I needed to keep my distance from him to be able to carry out my mission. There was nothing wrong with sharing a kiss with your mate. Right?

When Fin’s lips met mine, I felt like I was in heaven. All the kisses from the other males that I had been with were nothing compared to his. My hands rested on his chest as he asked me for access to my mouth. Which I greedily allowed. Our tongues fought against each other, and the desire that I felt for him was like no other. Damn if I wasn’t in the middle of my patrol I’d I have my way with him.

You should tell him about Alpha Roy’s plan. He can help you.Enyo popped into my head. As much as I wanted to tell him, the order from my Alpha wouldn’t let me.Then let him mark you! Then you can work together and end this. You don’t want to hurt him.

As much as it pained me, I broke our kiss. The sparks still numbed my lips as I backed away from him. My heart raced in my chest and Fin’s dark eyes were smoldering as they scanned my body. A hint of blue started to take over his eyes. “I need to patrol. I’m going to get into trouble if I don’t get going.”

“Then run, feisty wolf. I’ll be right behind you.” Fin’s eyes flashed to his wolf’s and at that moment I knew that kiss wouldn’t be enough for him.

For the next four days, I tried my best to stay away from Fin. But he made it hard. He was always there when I turned around. Each time I laid eyes on him, I couldn’t help the small smile that would grace my lips. I sat in my room with all my belongings in my luggage the night before we were going to leave.

Enyo I don’t know if I can do this.I sighed as I tossed myself onto the mattress. Part of me wanted to go to him and tell him to mark me so that I could tell him what was going on. But then the submissive part of me told me I couldn’t because my Alpha gave me an order to not let him mark me.

What do you mean?Enyo’s head cocked to the side in my mind. She always acted like she didn’t know what I was thinking. I think she did that so that I would have to talk it out.

If I leave with him and his Beta. It will mean that is when my mission starts. I’m not strong enough.I sat back up and stripped out of my clothes. It was hot in here and this would be the last time I would be in a bed alone and I doubt he would allow me a bed of my own.

Enyo curled up as I lay back on the bed. What was I going to do? Either way, I would lose my life. That’s what I would deserve for killing my mate. But you don’t have to kill him, Nikita. There is another way to go about this. It’s not fair that Alpha Roy has made us do this. I understand she was his cousin, but I doubt Fin would have been careless about her.

You know that if she didn’t die that we wouldn’t have a mate.I snapped at my wolf. My body and mind were tired. I just needed some sleep.

Sparks raced up my arm, making me turn to my side with a moan. I wasn’t ready to wake up yet. Fin’s scent filled my nose, and I jerked fully awake. His dark blue eyes glowing in the dark.

“Fin!” I pulled the cover up where it had bunched around my waist. I didn’t know why since he had seen me on the trail naked and I had seen him.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.” His eyes glowed brighter in the darkness before he blinked.
