Fin stood and went into the living room and came back with a book. He opened it and then laid it down in front of me. I stared at the page, at the two people in the black and white picture and then the picture of their wolves. Their markings were the same as mine. I glanced up to Fin who shoveled more food into his mouth as I returned my gaze back to the pictures.

“Where did you get this?”

“That book there is in every alpha’s office. It shows us the lineage of the alphas. It also shows us where the packs came from. Those two wolves there started the Obsidian pack many years ago.” Fin sat there in front of me as I read the information. My line, if these were my grandparents, was one of the oldest packs.

“So you knew about my line all this time?”

“No, I didn’t know. When my father was teaching me about the packs I didn’t really pay attention since it bored me. Why did I need to know about the packs of the past? They were in the past.” Fin shook his head while he sat back in his chair. “I didn’t know about the Obsidian alphas until Olli came and saw you. You are a rare wolf Nikita. And you are an alpha born female.”

“This can’t be true. Why would my parents give me to another pack? If I was an alpha born female? It just doesn’t make sense.” I stood leaving my untouched food on the table and went to the windows. So many questions ran through my head. Most of them were why? I turned back to Fin who sat there and stared at me. “I want to see the pack lands that Obsidian controlled. I want to talk to them and find out why.”

“Well I can take you to your pack. But you won’t be able to ask anyone there anything. They are gone, my uncle killed them all. Well other than you and Olli that is.”

“So I’m the last?”

Fin stood and came up to me, pulling me flush against him. I would never know my parents, my real parents. No wonder the man and woman I called mom and dad didn’t give me as much attention. I’m not saying that they were lousy parents, but it was more of a chore. That was until they were killed by rogues. I then stayed in the pack house and began my training.

“Yes. I won’t let anything happen to you. I promise.” Fin whispered in my ear before he pulled away from me and caressed my face. “Now come eat and tomorrow you can talk to Olli.”

I sat in Fin’s office waiting for the wolf who was going to let me know about my actual birth pack. The Obsidian pack. A pack that didn’t make it through the tyrant that Alpha Christian was keeping us hidden from. If there was one thing about the previous alpha of the Shonkinite pack he protected his pack. Unlike Alpha Roy, all he cared about was the fame of it. He wanted the thrill but not the responsibility. Which was why if he was the one I know who poisoned me, the Shonkinite pack was about to no longer exist.

The door opened and Fin came in with the older wolf. He was greying on the sides of his hair. But no one could say he was balding he had a head full of hair. The way his eyes started to water had my heart clenching in my chest. What did he see? Who did he see?

“Luna Nikita. It is a pleasure to finally meet you. My name is Olli.” The old wolf stuck out his hand and I slipped mine in his big one. Olli kissed the back of my hand before he kneeled in front of me. My hand on his forehead. Just like an elder would do meeting a ranked wolf.

“Please stand.” I pull him up to his feet and glance over to Fin and he nodded. “Fin said you know things about my real birth pack.”

“I do Luna.” His striking green eyes held my own. “Why don’t we sit down. Fin you can sit with us.”

“I’m not going to leave my Luna all by herself with you. You know that Olli.” Fin laughed as he came around to sit beside me. His hand on my thigh.

“You alphas are all the same. I’m not going to mess with your mate Fin. You know me well enough.” Olli chuckled as he sat down on the other couch facing us.

“So, what do you know? How do you know things about the Obsidian pack?” I asked him as I sat on pins and needles.

“There’s a lot to say about the pack that you and I were born into. I’m years older than you but I knew your parents and your grandparents. They were good alphas until Alpha Christian came to make an alliance. That’s when things changed. Your mother lost her first born at birth. But I couldn’t understand why we didn’t hold a funeral for her.” Olli hung his head before he pulled it back up to gaze at me. “I didn’t understand until I saw you yesterday. The only reason they would change was the alliance that they had made. Because they were never like what they were before the alliance.”

“So they traded me for an alliance?” My hand went to Fin’s who’s had tightened on my thigh.

“That is what I’m thinking, Luna. Your mother was so happy to find out that you were a girl. You were the only second female born alpha in the land. Quartzite had the first.” Olli’s eyes glazed over and I thought that he looked like he was remembering something a long time ago.

I stood and walked over to the windows of Fin’s office. There had to be a reason they didn’t tell the elder the truth about them giving me up. Did they really do it to save their own skin? Would I ever know why? I turned back to the male wolves that were staring at me. “Did you find out why?”

“No, I left after they started to do things I wasn’t comfortable with. Your father’s parents, I’m sure, were wanting to tear him limb from limb. Because they raised him to be a good alpha with morals.” Olli held my gaze before I glanced over to Fin.

“I want to see the pack lands. I want to see what has been done with it.” I crossed my arms over my chest.

Fin stood and came up to me. His hands rested on my arms. “Whatever you want, feisty Luna. We can leave today if you want.”

I nodded before he kissed my temple and pulled me into a hug.

Chapter Thirty-Four

Nikita

When we arrived at the edge of the territory. All I could see was trees and buildings that were either destroyed or covered in vines. Some even had trees growing inside of them. While I walked up the paved road that was littered with tree roots and upended stones my eyes continued to take in everything on either side of me. What would this place look like if the pack was still here?

Fin and Olli didn’t say anything to me as I continued on through the ruins of the Obsidian pack. Everything was overgrown, my heart sped up as I spotted the packhouse. I was never much of a sentimental person but the thought of growing up here in this house and the friends I possibly would have made, made it a little hard to think.
