Wrapping my hand in her blonde hair, I jerked her head back. Her shriek with each thrust brought a smirk to my features. She didn’t mind that I was rough with her. Just as I was on the brink, I pulled out of her unleashing my load onto her back. I plunged three fingers into her to allow her to get hers. I had never been deemed a cruel lover. Her content sigh and the rigidness of her body told me I had obtained my goal just a few minutes after I did.

I removed myself from behind her and made my way to the bathroom to clean up. Her arms wrapped around me, making me stiffen at her touch. No one had held me like this since Kalila did the morning after she had told me that she was with pup. “Lover, you’re not finished, right? There’s more left of the night.”

My eyes stared back at me in the spiderweb broken mirror as I tried not to shrug her off. That’s one reason I always fucked them doggy-style or tied their hands. I didn’t like to be touched anymore. “I have to leave.”

Twisting out of her arms, I returned to the bedroom and redressed. She came out of the bathroom still naked, her arms crossed under her breasts. She wasn’t bad to look at, but she just wasn’t her. “When could we do this again?”

“Never. I won’t be back here.” It was cruel the way I said it, but at the moment, I didn’t care. I opened the door and shut it just as something crashed against it. Heading down the stairs and out of the bar, I made my way along the sidewalk.

The night was young, and cool as the wind picked up. I probably could’ve had a warm place to sleep if I had stayed with the blonde. I skidded to a stop as a silver-haired woman stepped in front of me. She glanced up at me, and her eyes made me shiver. She had the brightest grey eyes that I had ever seen. “Excuse me?”

“You’re excused,” She motioned for me to go around her. The grin on her lips pissed me off. Like what the fuck did she do that on purpose? Grumbling under my breath, I rounded her and started to walk away before her willowy voice spun my attention back to face her. “Fin.”

“How do you know my name?” I stared at her as she came back up to me. Standing face to face with her as she smirked at me. Aloysius whimpered in my head as she held my gaze. This woman made me want to kneel in front of her until she told me to stand.

“Oh, I’m sure you can figure that out, Fin.” She threaded her small arm through mine and led me to a concrete bench overlooking the lush green grass of a park. It swirled and danced as the wind picked up. I tried to pull away from this female, but I couldn’t get away from her. She sat me on the bench and nuzzled into my side. Who the fuck was this chick? Aloysius whimpered again, his paws over his head as he lay down in my mind.

I glanced around, noticing that most people averted their attention elsewhere as we sat here. She was a little different from what I was used to. It had gotten so quiet that I thought she had gone to sleep. “So, Fin, I have a job for you.”

“I don’t know who you are, lady, but you can’t just come up to me and tell me this.” I stood up finally and stared at her, crossing my arms over my chest. She stared at me with a curious expression before she giggled. What was with these females tonight?

“Well, Fin, since it’s taking you longer than your wolf to realize who I am, I guess I will just tell you. Fin, my name is Selene, the Goddess of the moon. The one you worship.” It took me a moment to realize exactly what she was talking about. The burning in my chest started to spread through my body. I could feel the anger building in my nervous system.

She decided now to show up! When she could’ve kept Kalila alive with my unborn pup! The deep growl that escaped my mouth did nothing to affect her. I stalked up to her, caging her with my arms. As I leaned over her. “No. I will not help you! You allowed my mate to be taken away and now ask me for help? No!”

“Ah, but that is where you are wrong, Fin. She was never your mate, and if you would’ve waited, you wouldn’t feel like this right now.” She gave me a look of concern even though I was in her face and could crush the life out of her. “Your actions changed your destiny. So, this was your fault.”

I snarled at her. Moon Goddess or not, she wasn’t going to tell me what happened to Kalila, and my pup was my fault! “No. It’s yours! You could’ve kept her alive! You destroyed two lives. Don’t come to me again! I will not help you! I will not be your fucking lap dog!”

“Fin.” She started to place her hand on my cheek, but I pulled away before she touched me. A growl again rose from my chest at her and I walked away into the night. I didn’t need her. And she wasn’t going to get any help from me!I wouldn’t think that Fin. I’ll be seeing you again. We have time.

Chapter Five

One year later.

The one thing I didn’t like about being rogue was that I had no one to actually talk to. Sure, I interacted with a few of the other pack-less wolves but not like when I was part of my pack. One that I would never get back.

News about the new Alpha of Dolostone traveled. He was a vengeful tyrant, along with his predatory warriors. Rumors circulated that he had killed his brother, his brother’s mate, and their heir. Taking up the mantle of alpha of the pack. Others said the heir was out there, biding his time to take the pack over. How wrong they were. On both accounts. I chuckled as I steered the machine around to grab the product beside me.

In the year that I had been rogue, I realized that there were two types. One was that some didn’t mind being rogue and worked among humans, while the other set took it out on packs like the ones that helped Wade. I kept to myself most of the time unless I needed to get laid. Then I’d find someone to spend the night with. Leaving the next morning before they were up. I had learned my lesson the first time not to leave in the middle of the night. Since the Moon Goddess had caught me at that time.

Aloysius had pretty much stayed quiet since I went off on the Moon Goddess. She hadn’t returned to me, which was good because I meant what I said. I wasn’t going to help her. No matter how much she asked. She could beg me on her knees, and I’d still tell her no. She was nothing to me anymore. I had no faith in her and never would.

Sirens went off, and I stopped the machine I was using to move pallets to listen. Aloysius was alert as we sat there. People around me had stopped too. Emergency vehicles sped past the open flimsy metal door of the factory. Their lights flashing inside of the building as they went.

The smoke filled my nose. I jumped from the machine and went to the entrance, staring at the burning building across the street. The heat from the flames made me back away before I stepped out of the door into the cold day. People were down below as the emergency crews tried to set up a barricade to keep people from the fire.

The buildings in front of me held not only people’s livelihood but also their homes above. A scream from the top sounded through the air. My attention went to the window to the top left. Someone was hanging out, trying to hand off a young child to the firefighter on the ladder. Without thinking, I ran across the street. Aloysius gave me some of his strength to get to the building quicker.

Entering the other brick building, I made my way to the roof. Something about the little girl reminded me of Sydnie. I rushed over the tops of the buildings, getting to the fire-entrapped mother and daughter. I stood there trying to figure out how to help as the flames lapped at my clothes. The woman tried to toss the child and didn’t make it. My heart dropped as the child screamed along with the mom. So, I leapt from my position on the roof.

Free-falling until I had the little girl. I pulled her close and twisted my body. Using my other hand to grab hold of anything that I could. Finally, connecting to the metal fire escape, I dropped us down onto the landing. Metal creaking and groaning underneath me and the child. The little girl had tears in her eyes as I gazed into her green orbs. She shook as the adrenaline from the fall started to leave her. I turned my attention to the woman in the window, but she was now in the arms of the firefighter. Tears flowing down her burnt and blackened face.

I made my way down to the alleyway, and when the girl’s mother was on the ground, she ran over to me. Her arms wrapped around her daughter and me as she sobbed. Soot and the smell of burnt hair and flesh filled my nostrils. The woman pulled away from us, and I handed her the child. Smiling, I turned and ran right into the one woman I never wanted to see again in my life. “You did a wonderful deed here, Fin. Just like an alpha. How about you do this job for me?”

“I told you no last year. The answer is still no this year. Now go on your merry way and stay away from me.” I growled as I walked past her. Leaving the silvery-haired woman in the alleyway. A coolness blew through me, even though the fire still blazed behind me.

“You’ve left me no choice, Fin. Next time we meet, you will heed my call.” I turned just as she disappeared, a smile on her face. Why couldn’t she just leave me alone? She had done enough harm in my life. First, not allowing me to find my fated mate. Then destroying the life that I had built with my chosen.
