My parents finally appeared, walking with Brian in between them with his arms wrapped around their waists. Nate noticed them and quickly leaned down and whispered in my ear, making me widen my eyes surprised.

“Go out with me tomorrow.”

Chapter 8

Nate

Nate:Hey. Please go out on a date with me.

The message was immediately read and my heart skipped a beat as I watched the dots appear on my screen. I had been asking her out on a date the entire week, actually since our first game on Sunday... and she didn’t answer me.

It was safe to say I was rejected, but since she hadn’t confirmed nor denied it, I did not see any harm in trying again andagainuntil she would eventually see how desperate I was.

Avery: That’s the fifth time you’ve asked me this week.Don’t you give up?

She inserted the moon emoji and a smile grew on my face as I typed in my response.

Nate:I do when I see there’s no chance, but I don’t feel like doing so when it comes to you. So again, please go out with me? T_T

Avery somehow always managed to avoid the question, and again, I was extremely desperate.

Nate:Niel is invited too, so please just come. Please?

Avery:Ooh, you drive a hard bargain. What will we be doing there?

Was that a yes?Fuck yes!Finally! Lord, thank you!FINALLY!

Nate:Just some fun things, confirm once more for a hint.

I used the shrugging emoji, pretending to be mysterious, but if she asked, I would spill everything.

Avery:Yes, Nate. Niel and I would like to go out on a fun date with you.

Nate:I mean, that’s a given. How could you resist having fun with me?

Avery:Oh? Don’t get too cocky now! It’s never too late to withdraw.

Nate:I was just playing. Please don’t cancel! I made plans as soon as you said yes.

I was lying. I made plans way ahead her confirmation because I hoped she would want to go out with me, and thank the heavens she did! Also, my genius ass thought of ways I could win Niel over.

Winning Niel meant obviously having access to Avery’s heart. The boy would automatically become my wingman and hopefully, if everything went well, he would talk about me at every waking moment making Avery think—“Hmm, Nate just might be an alright guy for me.”

Of course, my delusions had forced me to believe in my plan. But then again, once I worked my charms on her, I believed she would have a hard time resisting me.I am that great.

Avery:You sound like you might cry. So when’s the date, crybaby?

Avery could be really mean sometimes but I was the crazy one to find it so attractive. It felt like a challenge and at times it also felt like she was flirting.

Nate:Tomorrow, Mommy.

I sent the text with no hesitation and it was on seen for a while without the little dots appearing to show that she was responding. Was I too flirtatious? Actually, that maybe was rude.Fuck, I’m an idiot.

My fingers quickly moved across the keyboard as I tried to make things right with her. “I’m sorry, I was just playing and I?—“

Avery:Alright, crybaby. See you tomorrow.

My eyes stared at the blushing face and brown heart for a while, trying to imagine her expression. Were her cheeks that pink? What does the brown heart mean? Was it a new trend? Did it hopefully hold the same significance as a red heart did?
