“You calling me fat?” I gasped and once again, Nate laughed raising his hands. This was actually the most relaxed I had seen him this year. “Nate!”

“No, no. You’re curvy.” He glanced at me from the corner of his eyes as he took a sip of his drink. “In all the right places.”

AHHHHHHHH! YES! YES!Nate checked me out!YESSSSSSS!

“Why thank you.” I pushed my chest out as I pulled my top up, my breasts jiggling from the action. “A few burgers and donuts a day don’t hurt.” I shrugged, pretending as if my look was effortless when really, every single day I hated the way I looked because I would never be with Nate.

I was shorter and bigger in frame compared to the girls he dated. But that was okay, he thought I had curves in all the right places.Teehee!

“How you don’t have a boyfriend still baffles me,” he murmured and I raised my finger. Seeing how talkative I was being right now, I had a few too many drinks in my system.

“It’s because I want you.”MyGOD,I wished I could just blurt that out!

“Well, you see the answer is simple,” I dangled and he cupped his cheek as he looked at me.

“What is it?” I loved how he would match my energy and how he was so interested in whatever I had to say, without judgment in his eyes.

I leaned in closer to him and brought my hands together as if I was about to explain something phenomenal.

“They don’t want me.” I spread my fingers as I leaned away, murmuringboomas I leaned into the lounger, but not before looking behind me to make sure my brother was still immersed with the party and not curious about the whereabouts of his sister and best friend.

“I can’t believe that.” Nate frowned as he looked at me and I smiled nodding. “It can’t be true.”

“Well, it is. I don’t know what you want me to say. That I’m insane?” I laughed and he smirked as he leaned back on the lounger and spread his arm out behind me.

Fuck.

“Well, that would make more sense, wouldn’t it? There is no way men aren’t attracted to abeautifulgirl like you,” he said and I was grateful for the cool air and the drinks in my system. Otherwise, I would have brought a new color onto Earth.

His fingers played with the strands of my hair and I struggled to calm my heart as I looked into his eyes.I’m far gone, aren’t I?

“Don’t say ‘girl’ like you’re that old. You’re only twenty-three and I’m twenty.” I chose to ignore the rest of his statement because I was afraid I would say something stupid to him.

“Aha, but I am still older than you.” He shrugged, proud of the little gap between us and I rolled my eyes as I quickly glanced behind us.Good, still no Brian. “If you’re looking for Brian, he’s gone.”

My eyes widened as I looked at Nate shocked. Did he know Brian was my brother?

“What?” I whispered and he smiled as he looked out the balcony into the breathtaking view.

“I noticed you’re always watching him, you must like him.”

“WHAT!” I tilted my head to the side, suppressing the urge to vomit. “Me?” I pointed to my chest as I tried to understand Nate’s sentence. “Like Brian?”

“Yeah.” Nate nodded. “I’ve seen how you look at him. There’s so much admiration in your eyes for him.”

“You sure I’m looking in his direction?” I asked as my upper lip lifted in disgust.

BRIAN? ADMIRATION? ME? UGH!

“If I look at him with anything, it must be with annoyance, wouldn’t you think? Brian is annoying!” I channeled the little sister in me as I thought of Brian.MY GOD!

“Be nice with your words, he’s still my best friend,” Nate laughed and I shook my head. I won’t ever be nice for Brian.

“Couldn’t you choose someone better?” I deadpanned and he roared with laughter as he clapped his hands. “Doesn’t the little whistle he does every three seconds irritate you?” I asked as I leaned in closer and Nate chuckled as he covered his mouth. “Admit it, I know it does annoy you.” I grew up with it.

“Okay, maybe you should go to bed. You’re obviously drunk,” he chuckled as he got up and I pretended to be saddened as I leaned against the lounger.

“Wait, I’ll call an Uber,” I answered slowly as I took out my phone, hoping muscle memory would lead me to the app.
