She was dressed in fluffy pink pajamas, along with character slippers, as she rushed over to me with a gleeful smile. She wrapped her arms around my waist and I covered her with my jacket, grateful she didn’t have a problem with the proximity between us.
I leaned down and kissed her head, and she squeezed her arms around my waist. She giggled and looked up, bringing her eyebrows together as she pouted.
“What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be at practice?”
I rolled my eyes playfully and shook my head as I leaned down to press a soft kiss on her nose. Her breath smelled like wine, which I guess influenced her cheerful mood. It was the weekend after all, and there weren’t any matches scheduled anytime soon, so I could only assume she wanted to let loose before the real work began.
“I missed you. I feel like it’s been weeks since I last saw you,” I said, bringing my hand up to push a stray hair behind her ear.
She looked flush and her eyes looked so relaxed. Most of the time, Avery would have her walls up and it was clear to see in her eyes. Right now she looked so happy.
I hope she’s happy to see me, just like I am.
She laughed softly as she pressed her head against my chest, and I wasn’t sure if I wanted her to hear just how crazy my heart was beating for her. I was scared she would find it corny and would think that I was being a bit too much and that she would eventually find me boring and move on.
But with all my fears, I didn’t want to let her go either. A part of me wanted her to find out just how my heart never calmed down around her, and how my hands would always be shaking whenever I was around her. How my voice would always tremble lightly as I talked to her.
“It’s just been a few days, Nate.” She pressed her chin on my chest as she looked up at me.
I was heavily tempted to lean down and claim her lips, but I reminded myself that I was supposed to take things slow with her.
The kiss in her office was sort of a claim on her, to tell her that I was very interested in her. I would chase her to the ends of the earth if I had to just so that I could be with her, and it seemed she understood that very clearly because here she was in my arms again.
“It felt like forever, Angel,” I whispered and the color in her cheeks deepened as her smile grew wider and she fluttered her eyes as she wetted her lips.
She wants me to kiss her.
“Is that my new nickname?” she asked and I smiled, nodding.
“Only I’m allowed to use it.”
“Why’s that?”
“Because you’re my angel. Mine alone.” I played with the strands of her hair and she closed her eyes for a second as she sighed. “Don’t fall asleep, or else my time will be cut short.”
“Are you whining?” she laughed and I pouted as I looked away, shrugging slightly.
“I mean, I kinda skipped practice to come this whole way just to see you,” I mumbled and she brought her hands up and gently grabbed my chin, forcing me to look at her.
“Then if that’s the case, keep your eyes on me while you’re here.”
My heart skipped a beat as I stared into her calm blue eyes, it felt like she was casting a spell on me, and I would gladly be bound by it if it meant I could always be with her.
“Crazy,” I muttered and she tilted her head to the side.
“What is?”
“How’d you know I liked keeping my eyes on you? I like, do it all the time. If you saw, you’d think I was a creep,” I jokingly said and she smiled nodding.
“Why’d you think I’m here? It’skindasad to see you staring at me like that every day,” she murmured as she stroked my chin and I loved it! I loved the banter and I loved how she was touching me and looking at me as if I were the only man that mattered in her life right at this moment.
“Wait, so you’re telling me that this is all happening because you just feel sorry for me?” I mused and she hummed as she looked away before she slowly looked back at me, nodding her head.
“Yeah.”
“Not because I’m the most handsome man you have set your eyes on?” I pretended to be offended and she shook her head as she pursed her lips.
“Unfortunately, you’re the fourth most handsome man I have ever set my eyes on,” she said as she brought her fingers up, indicating the number four.
