“You see other men?” I asked surprised and she giggled before she covered her mouth, looking around as she put her index finger on her lips.
“Don’t randomly say funny things. You’ll alarm Rudy.” She looked back at the receptionist and I turned to face him. Once our eyes made contact, he snarled and I stuck my tongue out before quickly turning around so that I wouldn’t see his reaction.
“Yeah, I don’t really like Rudy. I don’t think he likes me either, so forget his name, okay?” I pressed a quick soft kiss on her lips and she gasped as she widened her eyes.
“I can’t just forget his na—“ I pressed another kiss on her lips and said, “Forget it.”
“You’re crazy you know that?”Fuck, I don’t want to leave.
“Does that mean you forgot his name?” I asked and she looked up at the ceiling as she hummed.
“What was his name again?” she asked softly and I smiled, gently rubbing her head.
“Good girl, my angel,” I praised and she giggled as she pressed her hair down. “Now I feel like I’ll be able to survive the week after seeing you,” I said honestly and she pouted as she wrapped her arms around my waist again.
“Does that mean you’re leaving now?” she murmured as she pressed her face against my chest, hugging me tighter.
“Yeah, otherwise the captain will scold me.”
“Hmm?” she whined and I gently rubbed her back.
“I’ll call you?” I looked at her, waiting for her permission to finally make it out of the texting zone, because there was nothing more I wanted to do than call her on a daily basis. Ask her about her day, and just hear her sweet voice serenading my ears.
“I’d like that.” She nodded as she unwrapped her arms from my waist and I lifted my jacket to cover our heads as I pressed my lips on hers one last time before I left. She smiled against my lips, and I softly bit her bottom lip as I pulled away.
“I didn’t want Rudy to see that,” I whispered and she tilted her head to the side.
“Who’s that?”My fucking girl!“Well, you better go before the captain scolds you.”
“I’ll leave once you’ve entered your apartment,” I said as I rubbed her arms, reluctant to let her go.
“That won’t be necessary, it’s just a few floors up.” She pointed to the elevator and I nodded.
“Please send me a text when you enter your apartment, okay?” I pleaded with her and she nodded as she slowly walked over to the elevator. Once she stepped in, we both simultaneously raisedour hands to wave and I winked at her right before the doors closed.
Rudy scoffed and I turned to face him, pretty sure a shit-eating grin was wide on my face as I walked backward to the entrance doors.
“How’s that for a hint?”
“Ugh, dumbass,” he whispered as he shook his head and I chuckled as I left her apartment building, walking over to my car where I sat as I waited for her text.
I read the few texts I had received from Brian and our other teammates and ignored them as I watched her name pop up in my notifications.
Avery:I made it to my apartment, and locked the doors. Now you go to practice.
I smiled as I read the text over and over again before replying.
Nate:Alright, I’ll call you tomorrow. Goodnight, Angel.
Avery:Goodnight <3.
My heart skipped a beat at everything Avery did. Once I was done blushing over her texts, I finally went on my way back to the training facility, which was over an hour away from her apartment and I knew I was in serious shit.
I looked at the time and it was a little over nine o’clock at night. The boys were probably done with the warm-up exercises, and I knew for sure Brian would not be too happy with me.
Was leaving practice before it even began a smart choice?Absolutely not.But I did not regret what I did because I feltlike I had just gotten my dose of serotonin and would be able to manage this whole week in a great mood.
When I arrived at the facility, I quickly changed into my gear and Brian was surprisingly waiting for me outside the ice with his arms crossed over his chest. The boys were already on ice, practicing just like we had all agreed and here I was, in front of my best friend with my head cast down in shame as he looked at me.
