“No.” I shook my head as I slowly looked away from the wall, eyeing him carefully. “I thought everything was going great, but she suddenly drew a wall up between us.”

Brian nodded slowly and all the boys seemed to have their thinking caps on as a great silence grew in the room.

“What do you think might be the cause of it?” Jake asked.

I shrugged, really not sure. It could be a couple of things but I wasn’t sure if I was the cause of it.

“I think she might still have feelings for her ex,” I answered, not wanting to mention the fact she had a baby just in case Brian put the dots together. “He had quite a huge impact on her.”

“Hmm, and she just told you to stop doing whatever it was that you were doing?”

“Yeah!” I was just as confused as the rest of them were and Jake tilted his head to the side.

“Well, whenever my wife just randomly says things that don’t align with what we’ve been experiencing lately, instead of asking her what I did wrong I try to make it up to her with a small intimate date. Once we’re done with the intimate stuff, she actually tells me what I did wrongifI did do something wrong,” the other married guy, Tom said with a shrug.

I heard what he was saying, but I didn’t think that would work with Avery.

“I doubt that will work,” Brian said and most of us agreed.

Jake raised his hand coming up with another suggestion.

“Hmm, perhaps organize a small nice date where you guys can actually talk about your relationship and what you both expect from it.”

“What if it’s not a relationship and we haven’t actually put a label on what we have?” I asked slowly and a bunch of curse words flew around the room as the other team members got up from their seats.

“You fucking idiot,” Tom chuckled as he pulled his bag over his shoulder.

“Had us all fucking worried thinking you weren’t the problem,” another member clicked their tongue and I looked at them confused as they all dispersed around the changing room.

Brian covered his face as he chuckled and Andy looked just as amused while Jake looked at me as if I was the biggest idiot on the team.

“He still did not figure it out,” Brian laughed harder, eventually struggling to breathe.

Tom slapped my shoulder, shaking his head while he laughed as well.

“Good luck, man. I’m going home to mywife, whom Iproposedto,” he emphasized his words and I pulled my eyebrows together.

“I’m not going to propose to the girl, we just met!” I said and Brian’s shoulders shook as he looked at me, shaking his head as if he felt sorry for me.

“I give up,” Tom said as he left the changing room and the other guys followed behind him.

“You fucking idiot!” Jake suddenly roared and I looked at him surprised. “YOU.” He clapped his hands. “CANNOT.” Clap. “DO.” Another series of claps followed as he shouted at me. “Boyfriend shit for someone who isn’t your girlfriend!”

My mouth slowly hung open as I got it and Brian wheezed as he slammed his fist on the locker beside him.Real fucking funny!

“You should’ve let him boil before spelling it out for him,” Brian breathed out as he caught his breath, placing his hand on his chest.

My eyes met his and he roared out in another fit of laughter and I wondered if he genuinely found it funny or if he thought that I was being punished for skipping practice.

“It was sad. I couldn’t let him use his brain more than he had already,” Jake said as he got up, pulling his bag up his shoulder. “Now that you know, I believe you will do what’s right.”

He waved as he walked away and Andy got up as well, shaking his head as he clasped my shoulders.

“I really thought you were a ladies man, Nate,” he kissed his teeth and chuckled as he rubbed my head as if I were some dog. “Guess you still have a lot to learn.”

“I am aladiesman, but now I’m trying to beherman,” I emphasized as I pushed his hands away from my head and Brian had finally calmed down. “There’s a difference.”

“True, but she’s got you down bad if you’re trying to beherman,” Andy mused and Brian had a soft smile on his face as picked up his bag as well.
