We shared the popcorn and there were a few moments of those cringy cliché moments when our fingers would meet in the box. And of course, Nate thought it would be funny to stare deeplyinto my eyes when that happened before bursting into a fit of laughter.

I was afraid that he wouldn’t be so carefree and chaotic since my explosion, but Nate seemed like himself. Perhaps what I had said didn’t affect him as badly as I had thought it did all because I spent the week beating myself up for it.

Plus, even though he was teasing me, he wasn’t as seductive and flirtatious as he would normally be. Not once since we went on this date, had he tried to kiss me or pull me into his arms and hug me.

I wasn’t sure if this was him respecting the boundaries I set or if he actually was affected by what I said to him, but I was desperate to hold his hand and be in his big veiny arms while he tilted my head up to kiss me, or even nip my nose like he would normally do.

Would tonight not end with us kissing? Was there even a chance that we would kiss tonight or was I being too hopeful?

“Angel, the movie is over,” he whispered in my ear as he poked my cheek and I turned to face him. Even though he wasn’t as touchy as normal, he certainly didn’t have a problem with being up and close, nor did I because I was hoping one of the up close would lead to more.

Please God!

“Oh, it was great wasn’t it?” I asked as I stood up and he squinted his eyes as he leaned in closer, staring into my eyes like I was being suspicious.

“Why do I get the feeling I watched it alone while you were mentally drowning in your thoughts?”

“W-what? That’s not true!” I shouted nervously and he grinned as he shook his head, pointing an accusing finger at me.

“You spent most of your time watching me more than the movie.”

“Nate, stop lying,” I defended myself as I walked backward because he kept on coming closer to me. I tripped on my feet and he caught me, wrapping his arms around my waist and helping me settle down onto the chair. “I did watch the movie,” I whispered and he smiled, as he caged me between him and the seat.

“I really don’t mind if you didn’t watch the movie,” he said as leaned in closer. “Because I was watching you as well.”

I gulped as my eyes moved between his lips and eyes, wondering if this was when it would happen.

The theater was fairly empty and we were the last of the few people that were left in here, but I was pretty sure they couldn’t see us in the dark. If we kissed right now, nobody would know, right?

“Well, I wasn’t watching you at all.” I looked away and he leaned in closer, his strong manly, dewy scent invading my space. I crossed my legs, trying my hardest not to look at him.

“Really?” he asked as he pushed his face in my line of sight, his tongue tracing his teeth.

“You were far more interesting than the movie for me. The way you slowly blinked, frowned when you didn’t like what the characters were doing, and muttered curse words under your breath when something terrible happened, it was allinteresting,” he said and I widened my eyes. “But do you know what was my favorite part?”

“What?” I asked hesitantly and he smiled as he pressed his forehead against mine before leaning away slightly.

“The way you would bite your lips when you turned to face me,” he whispered and my heart stilled. It fucking stilled!

This man will kill me today. No one deserved to be as hot as he was.FUCK!

“You saw that?” I whispered and he slowly nodded as he licked his lips.

Finally, the pace of my beating heart quickened in excitement. We are about to kiss, I know it!

“Yeah, I was watching you.” He smiled and I fluttered my eyes closed as he leaned in closer, but instead of a pair of lips touching mine, he pulled my hoodie over my head and pulled the strings before tying them.

I opened my eyes shocked, and I could see a bit of light from underneath my hoodie and he helped me up, making me walk in front of him.

So we weren’t going to kiss?

“Uhm, Nate? I can’t see.” I put my hands out in front of me, trying to feel around, but all I felt was air.

“Don’t worry. You won’t fall when you’re with me,” he said as he directed me out of the theater. Once we made it out, he pulled my hoodie down and smiled as he tilted his head to the side.

“Why did you do that?” I asked as I tried to fix my hair with my fingers.

“Avery, you hurt my feelings,” he said suddenly and I widened my eyes, I wasn’t expecting the confrontation to be so soon.
