“No, they don’t, but they’re both handsome. Besides, Brian doesn’t mind cutting his cake with his only nephew from thepeoplehe loves,” she said and I tilted my head to the side. “You know what I mean, I had a few too many drinks already.”

“How many?”

“Don’t ask me questions, and sing for your brother.” She walked away clapping her hands as the crowd started singing for Brian. Niel was in his arms, clapping his hands as well as he sang for his uncle.

I quickly took my phone out and took a few snaps of the cute scene. They looked so happy, and Mom wasn’t wrong. They were handsome. The cake came out toward the end of the song, and Tanya passed the knife to Brian, who placed Niel beside him on the stool.

Niel put his hand over Brian’s hand and everyone cooed and cheered as they pushed the knife down on the cake, making the first cut.

“Why aren’t you cutting the cake with Brian?” Nate asked as he touched my back for a brief moment before standing beside me, pushing his hands inside his pockets.

“I could ask you the same question.” I smiled, making sure that my phone was still recording the moment.

“Me? When I first met you, I thought you were his twin with those crazy blue eyes that light up a room,” he teased and I rolled my eyes, sticking my tongue out.

“You two are always joined at the hip, so one would think you were his twin.”

“Nah,” Nate dragged as he shook his head. “I’m the attractive one and he’s the smart one.”

“Well, you did not lie about that.” I smiled as I locked my phone and threw it back into my clutch, cheering along with the othersas Niel smeared cream on his uncle’s face. They both had cake on their face and they looked so cute!

Both were a giggling mess as Tanya took over cutting pieces of cake for the people.

“Did you just call me stupid in the most nicest way, Angel?” Nate asked, drawing my attention away from the front and I squinted my eyes as I looked up at him.

“I mean, if that’s what you got.” I shrugged, biting the inside of my cheek to stop myself from laughing. “They were your words and I just agreed with you.”

He gasped as he put his hand on his chest.

“I’m not even offended, but wow. You are mean.” He shook his head as he kissed his teeth and I giggled shrugging.

“Got it from my mama,” I looked back at my watch and sighed. “I need to go make sure the preparations for the next party are going well.”

“Why don’t you just enjoy the party and trust that everyone is doing their bit, hmm?” he asked and I had considered that already. I would love to, but I was a perfectionist and I loved to double-check everything.

“I’ll enjoy the second party,” I said and he sighed as he let go of my hand. He nodded and I waved as I went to confirm the second location of the party and that the transport was ready for the people who had RSVP’d.

“Is everything okay?” Nate asked from behind me and I looked at him surprised. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m okay. But why are you outside?” I asked as I turned him around and put my hands on his back, leading him back to the venue.

“Because I wanted to check up on you,” he answered, allowing himself to be pushed even though he could easily just stand and not budge.

“I’m great, I’m just doing my job,” I grunted as he started adding more weight. “Please don’t do this to me,” I whined as he finally came to a standstill.

“I missed you,” he said softly and I let go of his back, standing up straight as I took a deep breath in.

“Go celebrate your friend, I’ll be there soon,” I said as I pushed the door open for him and he smiled, crossing his arms over his chest. “Please?”

“Say you will enjoy the second one,” he threatened, pointing his finger at me and I nodded. My gosh, Nate is so difficult. My heart felt like it was going to leap through my jacket because of his kind actions. This man is so sweet.

“I will, I will,” I gestured into the venue and he looked at me suspiciously as he walked past me back into the party and I finally finished up on what I was doing. I went back to the party, and as soon as I stepped in, I noticed Niel rushing toward me with a huge grin on his face.

“Mommy, Mommy!” he yelled as he spread his arms out and I did the same as I crouched down to his level.

“Hey, baby.” I kissed his cheek and he giggled as he pressed his lips on my cheek as well. “Are you having fun?”

“Yes,” he breathed out and I wiped the little cream off his nose that was left. “Mommy, dance with me.”
