“Okay.” I got up and clutched his hand as we joined the people who were dancing to the lively music. Even though we just stood there shuffling hands, I still had fun because of how happy my son was.

“Can I join in?” Nate asked and Niel squealed as he raised his arms up for Nate. He scooped him up and I rolled my eyes as they laughed with each other. “May we please have this dance?” They both put out their hands and I accepted one from each nodding.

“Yes, you may.”

Chapter 20

Avery

“We’ll be on our way now,” my mother said as the party finally moved on to its next phase. Niel was in her arms and my dad had his arm around her shoulders.

“Are you sure you want to take him tonight? I can come get him once I’m done,” I asked as I touched Niel’s cheek, pushing his hair back as he slept in my mother’s arms.

“It’s okay, you can come get him tomorrow. He’s asleep already, ain’t he?” my mother said.

I nodded as I kissed her cheek and hugged my dad.

“Alright, be safe.”

“You too, sweetheart. And make sure you rest when you get home!” She pointed an accusing finger at me and I agreed, smiling. I indeed planned on it, I was exhausted.

I waved until they were out of sight and sighed as I let down my hands. So much work still to do.

“Avery, could you please give us the instructions for the second party?” I looked at the assistants and nodded as I led them outside.

“So there’s two buses that will transport them from here to the club. I’ve already confirmed for the VIP section, so when they get there, they will let them in easily. After they’re done with that, please remind them that it’s imperative they climb on the busses because we’ve also organized accommodation for afterwards and the vehicles are there to transport them.”

“Alright, I’ll let the MC know.” She nodded as walked back into the venue and I followed close behind her and disappeared into the kitchen where the staff had already started washing the dishes.

“Did you guys eat food?” I asked, and they all nodded as they focused on their tasks.

“Did you get to eat, ma’am?” one of them asked as I took my phone out and quickly texted Rita back. She couldn’t make it to the party because of work and I would occasionally text her updates about the party.

“Hmm no. I was busy,” I answered and smiled as I locked my phone, noticing their worried expressions. “I’ll get something on my way out though.”

I left the kitchen and went back to the venue, and noticed that they were finally leaving the venue and it was a relief that everything was going as planned.

“There she is!” Brian yelled as he pulled me into his arms, and swayed us from side to side. “How’s my sis doing?”

“Suffocating.” I pretended to choke as I slapped his back and he squeezed tighter before letting go. “What are you still doing here? You’re supposed to be on the bus if you want to make it to your after-party.”

“I’m going, but I wanted to see you. You’ve been busy the entire night,” he pouted and I stuck my tongue out.

“Give me a sister’s allowance and I won’t have to work so hard,” I negotiated and he barked out a laughter as he leaned back. “Just a bit, five thousand a week sounds okay, don’t you think?” I said in a small voice and he chuckled as he shook his head.

“You are one funny sister you know that.” He patted my head and sighed. “I’m not crazy. But thank you for making sure everything went smoothly today.”

“Geez, what a way to thank someone who spent the entire day busting her hips out for you,” I pouted and he grinned.

“You’ll be coming to the after-party, right?” he asked and I smiled as Nate joined us. “Right, Avery?” he sang and I giggled.

“Yes, I’ll be right there,” I sang back and he chuckled as he raised his thumbs up.

“I know you’re lying, but I’ll keep the hope.”

“Say you’ll give me an allowance weekly and I’ll make sure I come?” I tried again and he laughed humorlessly as he clicked his fingers.

“The bus will leave me behind. Bye, Avery.” Brian waved as well as he walked away with Nate and they left the venue leaving me behind.
