“Same here,” Dane said, kissing her again.

“You two!” Josie waved at them both, making her way across the grass. “It’s so good to see you out here!”

“So good to see you too!” Josie and Alissa hugged. “Congratulations! Hearing you reading the book makes me want to read it all over again.”

“I’m so glad to hear that.” Alissa let her go.

“It’s crazy how you captured the energy of our town and the area. It feels like I know every last character in real life, you know?” Josie squeezed Alissa’s forearm. “You really started writing it years ago?”

“Yeah, I did.” Alissa shrugged. “I guess I had to be here in order for the story to come alive again.”

They chatted a while longer until the event started winding down. Dane stuck by Alissa’s side until the last people headed out.

“It feels so quiet here now,” Alissa said from her spot on the porch.

Dane wrapped his arms around her from behind, pulling her close. “It is. It was a big event.”

“So many people came.”

“Because your book is great.” He kissed her temple, taking in the scent of salty sea air on her skin. “Do you know what you want to do next?”

“Hmm. I want to sleep in tomorrow, for one,” Alissa said with a laugh, nestling against him. “And I’m excited to see where the magazine takes us. To see how many great things we can do together.”

Dane could easily see the future—their magazine, their relationship, their lives in Blueberry Bay. It was all so filled with opportunity and hope.

“There’s so much we can do.” He pulled her closer, looking out onto the ocean. “I can’t wait to see what we come up with.”
