He leans in and presses a soft kiss to my cheek. “Let me know when you need me to cross something off the list.” His words are whispered against my cheek and goosebumps break out across my skin.

He pulls back and steps away from me. I watch as he walks off, looking back over his shoulder every few steps. Once he rounds the building, Sandy pounces. “That boy has got itsobad.” Sandy glances over at me and her brows raise. “Damn, girl, you’ve got it bad too.”

I sigh. “I think I’m going to marry that man.”

A smile spreads across her face. “Should we celebrate the engagement?”

I huff, “No. Actually, we’ll just elope when the time comes.”

Sandy laughs at that like it’s a joke, so I laugh with her. “I think we deserve pizza tonight,” she says, dragging me toward the Plaza.

I don’t disagree. Pizza sounds amazing. I’m looking forward to having cheap pizza that’s not made with fresh mozzarella and an artisanal crust. I end up dragging her there faster than she had been walking. We order a whole pizza with sausage and mushrooms and take it back to the room. She pays for it and I promise to pay next time we go. “So, how was the Greek event?” I ask her as we sit down cross-legged on the floor.

Sandy pulls a slice of pizza out of the box and takes a bite before she answers. “It was nice. I think I’m going to put three of the sororities down for my picks. I’m hoping for Delta, but I won’t be disappointed if I get into any of the others.”

I nod as I pick up my own slice. Sandy tried to explain how rushing works to me earlier, but I didn’t really understand.

I bite into my piece and groan. It’s delicious and salty. I could eatpizza every day for the rest of my life. Sandy and I talk and laugh together as we eat. Having a friend is amazing. I’ll be sad when she moves out next semester. Sandy is great. There’s no way a sorority won’t hesitate to snatch her up. I’ll just enjoy my time with her while I can.

I’m on the rink early Monday morning, running through drills by myself. Five in the morning is the perfect time to come and get some time alone on the ice. Usually, I’m alone here but for the last week I’ve heard someone using the track above the rink. They’re never loud or anything. All I’ve heard is the occasional squeak of sneakers. They usually leave forty minutes before me, so I have a nice slice of silence after that.

The puck flies right into the net like I expected it to and I’m already on to the next one. I’ve already been at it for an hour. I hit the last puck into the net and skate over to pick them up. Coach doesn’t mind if we come in to practice if we clean up after ourselves. I make sure everything is the way it was before I got here before I head into the locker room.

After a quick shower, I’m back in my street clothes. As I pass by the pool, a girl walks out. Her long black hair wet, making her long-sleeve SU shirt damp on the shoulders and back. She looks up at me with big innocent hazel eyes and I stop in my tracks. She’s fucking gorgeous.

She might literally be the most attractive woman I’ve ever seen. Asmile graces her lips as she continues past me. I hurry to catch up. “Hi,” I say when she looks over at me.

Her brows raise. “Hi.”

Then I just don’t say anything else. It’s like I suddenly have no game. Usually, I’d have a girl giggling and agreeing to meet up in the stacks later or inviting me back to her place between classes but I can’t even figure out what to say. So, we walk in silence, and she walks away from me as soon as we step outside. I watch her go as I mentally punch myself in the face. I drag my feet back to my car fighting myself to not chase her down. I don’t want to stalk the poor girl like I’ve heard Zane is doing to his new girlfriend.

A blonde girl is leaning against the hood of my car when I make it to the parking lot. Her name is Cindy, or Cynthia, or something like that. She looks at me from under her lashes. “Hey, Sloane. I saw your car while I was out for a walk,” she says like she doesn’t know I come here this early every morning.

Usually, I’d invite her into my car to fool around, but I’m just not feeling it today. “Not today, Cindy.” I take a shot in the dark with the name, and from her scowl, I know I’ve gotten it wrong.

“It’s Carol,” she snaps and I nod. I should have known. Zane keeps telling me how stupid her name is and I just keep forgetting it. “Why not? Youneversay no.”

I frown at that. Yeah, she’s probably right. “I’m saying no now,” I tell her, opening the driver’s side door.

She makes it to me before I can get in and presses herself to my chest. Her hands run up and down my pecks and I feel suddenly dirty. I push her away and she stumbles, nearly falling onto her ass. “Do not touch me ever again. You do, and I will report you for sexual harassment.” I get into the car and close the door, ignoring her as she gapes at me like a fish.

I speed the entire way home, feeling like my skin is crawling with shaking hands. As soon as I park my car, I rush inside past Cain and get into the shower, even though I took one before I left the gym. I spend thirty minutes in there, scrubbing my chest and arms where she touched me with the water on as hot as it will go. When I step out ofthe shower, I find Cain standing in the open doorway I apparently forgot to close. He tosses me a towel. “You okay?”

I look down at the visible redness from where I scrubbed so hard I took off at least three layers of skin. I nod. “A girl touched me when I turned her down and I freaked out.” I look down at the towel I’m just holding, like I’ve forgotten how to use it.

Cain leans against the wall like he’s ready to stick it out in here with me for the long haul. “There’s nothing wrong with your reaction. She shouldn’t have touched you. Do I need to talk to someone about it?”

I shake my head. “No. I think she’ll leave me alone. She’s just a stupid girl. I can stand up for myself now.” I’m not sure if I’m telling him this or me.

Cain nods like this is an obvious fact. “I know, but it’s also okay to ask for help when you need it. Like how I signed you up for tutoring.” He looks away, expecting my reaction.

“What?! I don’t need a tutor. If I get stuck, I can always ask Nox.” I scowl at him.

He shakes his head. “Nope. He’s too busy this semester with his TA position. Just go to the tutoring center after class today at three and they’ll have someone assigned to help you with math and science.”

“It’s the first day of class. I don’t need help,” I disagree.
