“Russo,” Viv answers automatically.

“Are you majoring in sociology?”

Viv shakes her head. “No. I’m majoring in criminology.”

Bowing’s brows dip down. “That’s a shame. Well, I can see Price is lucky to have you.” He smiles at Viv before finishing his round of the class.

The professor glances at the clock. “Well, that’s our time. I’ll see you all on Thursday when the real work will start.”

The students start packing up their things and trickle out of the room. Viv is the last to leave as she puts things back into her book bag meticulously. I give her a small smile as she leaves, which she returns easily.

“So, what do you think?” Bowing asks.

“About?” He isn’t talking about Viv, is he? Did he realize how occupied I was with her?

“The students. Think we got any good ones this semester?” he asks, leaning his hip against my desk.

I shrug. “Yeah, there were a few who paid close attention in class. Most of the students seemed enthusiastic, though a few did seem pretty uninterested. I guess only time will tell.” I pause pushing my hands into my pockets. “There is one student I would like to talk to you about though.”

His brows go up. “Which one?”

I swallow. “Viv Russo. One of my best friends is dating her and I don’t really feel comfortable grading her assignments. I’m sure I’ll end up spending social time with her by association, and I don’t want to blur the lines.”

Bowing nods. “Okay. That’s fine. I look forward to seeing where she goes in this class. That girl is pretty bright.”

“Really?”

He nods. “She was taking notes including advanced sociological ideas that I only taught your class last year.”

My brows raise. Who exactly is Viv Russo and why does she knowjunior level sociology? I stare off blankly. “I guess only time will tell.” I shrug.

He nods, one corner of his lips tilting up. I guess we’ll find out then how much she knows during finals.

“See you later,” Bowing calls to me as I head out of the room.

I find Viv sitting on a chair at the end of the hall with her textbook open on her lap. “What are you doing?” I ask her, looking around.

Her hazel eyes meet mine and she gives me a shrug. “I have criminology in an hour. Figured I would just wait here and read for a bit.”

Glancing down, I see she’s already halfway through next week’s reading. “Want to go grab a coffee?” I find myself asking and suddenly realize how inappropriate that could sound.

Her lips roll in on themselves.

I raise my hands in innocence. “I already told the professor I can’t grade your work because of your relationship with Zane.”

Viv frowns. “Because we went on a date?”

I look at her for a long moment. “Aren’t you his girlfriend?”

Viv shakes her head. “He hasn’t asked me.”

Zane’s an idiot. The little psycho is probably running around assuming they’re in a relationship without even thinking to tell the poor girl. “Oh well, anyway, it’s fine. It’s not like it’s a date.”

Viv thinks about it, biting her bottom lip, “Okay. A coffee sounds good.”

She follows me as I lead her out of the building to walk across the courtyard from Huron Hall to the plaza. I have to slow down a little for her to keep up. I may not be the tallest, but I’m still quite a bit taller than her.

Viv lets me open the door of the small coffee shop for her. The on-campus cafe provides a number of options, from tea to a small variety of lattes. I order a large raspberry white chocolate latte. I glance over to Viv. “What do you want?”
