She steps closer to me and I scoot away. “I wanted to know if you wanted to hang out later, maybe tonight? My roommate will be out.”

“No.” I glare at her.

Her hand goes to touch my shoulder and my entire body tensesup, but it’s knocked aside before it can reach me. A body has moved between us. Wavy black hair brushes against my arm and I relax. “Sorry, Chloe, but Sloane and I actually have plans. He said no, accept it.”

“It’s Carol,” she snaps. “And you can’t possibly have plans all night.”

Viviana shrugs and I’m disappointed I can’t see her face as she stands up against Carol. “I don’t know what to tell you, Cleo. He’s such a giving lover that sometimes it does last all night.” I snort at her using the wrong name again. I’m ninety-five percent sure she’s doing it on purpose at this point.

Carol steps closer to Viviana, and I tense, worried she’ll try to hurt her. A dark chuckle leaves Viviana. “Go ahead and touch me. There are cameras in here. It’ll give me a great excuse to break all the fingers in the hand you tried to lay on him after he said no.”

Carol steps back, sending Viviana one final glare before she storms off, throwing her blonde hair over her shoulder. “Bye, Clara!” Viviana calls to her retreating back.

Carol glares at her again as she leaves the tutoring center. Viviana huffs out a breath as she takes her seat. “Carol’s a stupid fucking name.”

“Did you just tell her we were planning to fuck all night?” I ask just to be sure I didn’t imagine it.

Viviana raises a brow at me with a fierce gleam in her eyes. “Yep. Hate people who can’t take no for an answer. She’s lucky I didn’t break her fingers just for the hell of it.”

She takes a deep breath and her face slowly goes back to the pleasant expression usually on her face and that look in her eyes slowly dissipates. When I write about our love story later, I’ll say she put her mask back into place. It’s a lot like what Z does when he’s trying to hide his crazy.

I give her a shrug. “Yeah, Celeste has just recently become a problem. We had a casual thing I ended, and she isn’t taking it well.”

Viviana frowns, staring off where Carol disappeared. She holds her hand out. “Give me your phone.”

I do it without argument, which is weird. I never let anyone touchmy phone, not even one of the guys. She pulls open a new contact screen and types her phone number in. She hands it off to me. “Call me if she bothers you.”

I snap a picture of her to save as her contact image. “Sure thing.”

She frowns at me. “Don’t post that online, please.”

My brows lower. “Of course not.”

“Okay, I’ll see you Monday. I’m serious. Call me if she keeps bothering you and I’ll deal with it.” She stands from the table and I do the same.

I lean forward and press a kiss to her cheek like I did last time. Her teeth bite down on her lip and she gives me a small shy smile. She stands there and watches as I leave. I think I’m fucking obsessed. I glance over my shoulder for the fourth time before I turn the corner and she’s out of sight.

Viviana

Afew weeks pass, and August turns into September. There’s no reason to feel anxious, but I feel like I’m being watched and I’ve learned to trust in those feelings. They’ve saved my life more times than not.

I’m lying in my bed on Saturday afternoon without any real plans. Sandy has some things to do with Greek life, so she isn’t home. Zane texted me early this morning to tell me he would be busy until noon, but that he would call me then. So here I am, waiting like a damsel in distress for my knight in shining armor to save me from boredom.

The moment my phone rings, I pounce on it. “Hello?”

“Hey, Viv. Wanna knock another thing off your list today?” Zane asks.

I bite my lip, wondering if he changed his mind about taking my virginity. “Which one?”

“Sleepover.” He sounds so excited. “I’ve got all the stuff you wanted and everything. Cain told me we’re not allowed to have a pillow fight with the nice downy pillows, so I got some poly-fill ones.”

I pause. “You want to sleep over here?” I ask, stunned.

I’m not sure if that’s okay. Sandy and I haven’t talked about whether or not we were comfortable with overnight guests in theroom. Zane snorts at that. “No offense, Viv, but your bed isn’t big enough for a sleepover. I meant here. You can get to know the other guys better. I already cleared it with Cain and Nox, and they said as long as you don’t talk about it at school, it should be fine. Plus, you can meet our other roommate.”

I furrow my brow. “Other roommate?”

Zane hums in agreement. “Yep, I’ve got another one you haven’t met yet. Come on, it’ll be fun. We can order pizza and watch some cheesy Hallmark rom-coms. With ridiculous names like Love at First Bark or Flip that Romance.”
