I laugh. “You just came up with those names, didn’t you?”

“Nope. They’re real. Nox said we have to watch at least one horror movie, or he isn’t going to participate.”

“That’s fine.”I shrug not minding.

Zane laughs. “Get your pajamas and stuff ready and I’ll be by to pick you up in twenty minutes.”

I empty my book bag out on my bed and stuff my favorite pajamas in. Of course, they’re the ones covered in little tiaras, and I even throw in a pair of slipper socks with the same pattern on them. I don’t forget to pack my toothbrush and bathroom stuff and I make sure to pack extra underwear. A few seconds after I zip up my bag, there’s a knock on the door. I fling my bag over my shoulders and fling myself into the arms of the guy standing on the other side of the door as soon as I open in.

My wide eyes meet with Nox’s and I’m flinging myself away from him. I bang my shoulder against the wall. “I’m so sorry. I thought Zane was coming to get me,” I apologize, looking around to make sure nobody saw.

Nox frowns. “I don’t have cooties,” he grumbles and starts to stomp away.

I run after him, grasping his wrist to make him slow down. “That’s not why I reacted like that. I was worried someone would see.”

Somehow, it’s possible for him to frown even deeper. “Would being seen with me in public really be that bad?” He flings my hand off his wrist and storms off faster thanbefore.

I stand there for a long moment trying to figure out what just happened. He’s already walking out of the door by the time I start running to catch up with him standing next to my car. “Nox.” He ignores me, pulling on the handle to the driver’s side door, which doesn’t open since I locked it.

I grab his elbow this time. “Nox.” He finally turns toward me, looking over my shoulder, but I can tell I have his attention now. I take a step closer. “You’re a TA.” I pause. “You’remysociology TA. I don’t want you to get in trouble. Or mess up your reputation. If people thought you were having an inappropriate relationship with a student in your class, that would affect you.”

Nox’s eyes finally meet mine and he relaxes his shoulders and his arms fall to his side. “Okay.”

I nod, glad he finally understands where I’m coming from. He turns back to my car. “Did you want me to drive?” I ask, confused.

He glares at me over his shoulder. “No.”

I tilt my head to the side. “Then why are you trying to get into my car? I can give you the keys if you want to drive it.”

“I’m not. This is my car.”

I look at the car and then the spot number on the parking spot. “Nope, spot twelve. That’s my car.”

Nox looks up at me. “Seriously?” I nod, confused, as he looks around and curses. He stomps over to an almost identical car three spots over. The door opens the first time he pulls on the handle.

I giggle. “We have the same car.”

I get into the passenger seat, setting my bag at my feet. “You can put that in the back seat if you want,” Nox says, looking at the cramped space in the footwell.

I glance over my shoulder at his back seat before picking up my bag and settling it back there. “Sorry. I’ve gotten used to Zane’s tiny little Barbie car.”

Nox snorts, glancing over at me. “Z was busy setting things up. Apparently, everything needs to be prefect for your first sleepover. He went a little crazy on Pinterest, so just be prepared.”

Now I’m worried about how far overboard he’s gone. The drive ends up being only ten minutes, and we listen to music on the waythere. When we pull up in front of a large A-frame house, I get out and look up at the blue building that has to be at least three stories. It’s big, though not nearly as big as the giant mansion I grew up trapped in.

Nox pulls my book bag from the back seat and I skip over there and wrap my arms around his shoulders in a tight hug. “Thanks. This means a lot to me.” I pull away and smile at him.

Nox gives me a smile, which is pretty rare for him, as far as I’ve seen anyway. He leads me to the front door and opens it. I follow his lead, taking my shoes off at the entrance. “Should I leave my weapons at the door?” I ask.

He laughs. “Nah. Stab anyone you want. Just not me.”

I nod in agreement. That’s fair. “No shooting?”

He shakes his head sadly. “Too loud. The neighbors would call the police.”

“Noted.”

“Come on, he’s in the living room,” Nox says, walking down the hall.
