I can do that.

I plug in my phone and place it on my nightstand. I lie back and close my eyes, knowing that I would have a hard time falling asleep now that I spent the last two nights cuddled up in Viv’s bed with her. A doctor prescribed a sleeping medicine for me a while back, but I don’t like the idea of not being able to wake up quickly in an emergency. So instead, I suffer. I’ll need to find a way to either get back in Viv’s bed or get her into mine.

Viviana

“Come on. Spill. What is going on between those three guys and you? Sloane said you were all dating!” Sandy demands, excitedly pushing her English book across the desk like it offended her by not containing the juicy gossip she wants.

Sighing, I shrug, turning to face her in my desk chair. “None of them have asked me out, but we’ve all been kind of seeing each other. Things with Nox are pretty new, though.”

Her brows furrow. “So you’re not exclusive?”

I pause. “I’m with all three of them, but I’m not seeing anyone outside of them, and I don’t think they’re seeing anyone outside of me. It’s all very new for me. I’ve never dated before.”

Sandy places her elbow on the desk and leans her cheek into her palm. “Maybe just ask them? Communication is important in any relationship, especially in one as involved as yours.”

I tap my pen against my bottom lip, considering that. “You’re right, I’ll have to just ask since it’s obvious none of them will ever do it.” I turn a glare on her. “Now get back to studying. We only have a week left before exams.”

Sandy groans as she pulls her textbook back in front of her. “Fine! You’re such a tyrant!”

I grin when she goes back to reading through her vocabulary. Sloane should be showing up soon to study with us too. I invited Zane, but he has a big art project that he has to finish. Nox only has a couple classes, so I didn’t really think about inviting him. I pull my phone from my pocket and shoot off a text to invite him if he wants to join us. I don’t look back at the phone as I dive back into my sign language textbook.

With spoken languages, there are some common syllables that originate from the same areas that make learning a new language easier. Sign language doesn’t have that, though. You’ve got to memorize an entire new method of speaking and make certain facial expressions while you’re doing them. Body language is such a big part of sign language. When I’m about halfway through the last chapter in my book, there’s a knock at the door.

Sandy groans in relief and jumps to her feet. “Finally, an excuse to look away from that book!”

I chuckle at her. Something Sandy doesn’t talk about much is the fact that she has ADHD, so staying on task with boring things like studying is something she really struggles with. The door swings open and she giggles. “Viv, your boyfriends are here.”

I roll my eyes and glance over my shoulder to find her ushering Sloane and Nox in. Sloane walks right over and sprawls out on my bed with zero shame while Nox stands awkwardly in the center of the room with his backpack slung over his shoulder. I smile over at him. “Go ahead and sit wherever. Feel free to stab Sloane to take his spot. You can have my chair if you want the desk,” I offer, spinning around in my desk chair to look at him fully.

Nox’s shoulders relax and he shakes his head before sitting down on Sandy’s old bed. “I don’t want to stab Sloane. It would get your comforter all bloody.”

I grin at that before I look over and stick my tongue out at Sloane. I’m kicking this whole adulthood thing’s ass. “Super mature,” Sloane tells me like he can read my mind.

I shrug and point at his bag he dropped on the floor. “Get to studying,” I demand, turning back to my book.

I may have hacked into the school files to give myself a spothere, but I’ll be damned if I don’t do my best while I’m here. My dad spent tens of thousands on personal tutors and I did not let those lessons go to waste. I enjoy learning new things, so college is, like, the best thing in the world. I’m honestly so happy that I ran away to come here. I get to learn a bunch of stuff and do whatever I want when I want to.

We’re mostly quiet as we study. Sandy occasionally asks me questions about her English class, but Sloane is able to give her better answers than me since he’s majoring in it. She leans toward me. “He’s my new favorite.”

I laugh. “Don’t let Zane hear you say that. Becoming your favorite would become his newest obsession.”

A deep chuckle leaves Sloane. “Doubt it. He’s still pretty focused on his last obsession.”

My cheeks do not heat at that because I’m not a blusher. I’ll stand by that belief until I die. Either way, I don’t justify that comment with a response as I send a glare Sloane’s way. He shrugs, giving me some kind of orgasm-inducing smirk like it’ll make me forget… Damn, I literally can’t remember why I was upset as I blink at him and then shake my head, turning back to my book.

We study until late, snacking on a few bags of chips I had lying around the room. Sandy is the first to duck out as she packs up and hurries from the room like her tail feathers are on fire. She probably thinks I’m going to grab her and tie her to a chair to force her to study more if she doesn’t get away fast enough. Nox and Sloane stay an hour longer, studying. When Sloane stretches out on the bed and yawns, he glances over at Nox. “Are you ready to head home yet?”

I turn to face them in my chair as Nox scratches the side of his nose, avoiding looking at Sloane while he answers. “You can head home without me.”

“We drove here together. How will you get home?” Sloane’s eyes narrow.

I use my hand to cover the humorous smile on my face while they talk. “I’m going to stay here tonight,” Nox says, tucking his books away into his backpack.

“How are you going to get home?”

Nox shrugs. “I’ll get a ride with Zane when he comes to stalk Viv tomorrow.”

Sloane huffs, standing up from his spot on my bed and putting away his things. Sloane is so messy that anytime he studies, he’s surrounded by papers and books. I have no idea how he concentrates with so much going on around him. He slings his book bag over one muscular shoulder before he saunters over to me. He reaches out his hand, bracing it against the desk behind me. Leaning over me, he brings his lips down to meet mine. My chin tips up to deepen the kiss. A happy rumbling sound escapes him as he smiles against my lips before he pulls away. “See you tomorrow?”
