“Katerina…” I started and she spun around, fury in her eyes.

“No. I don’t care. You always said you were only interested in a fuck and I don’t know why I was surprised. I don’t even know why I care right now.” She said before she yanked open the fridge, staring into it with no purpose.

“I know what I said, but you know I didn’t mean it like that. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t want more than a fuck and you know it. You wouldn’t have tolerated me if you had no interest in me either.” I said softly and she slammed the door, looking at me with a mixture of anger and sadness that tore my heart out.

“I guess you are right. I don’t know what this is…or was between us, but it isn’t going to happen now.” She said and I sighed.

“Let me explain, please. I am not engaged, I do not have a bride, it is a huge misunderstanding.” I tried to explain and she laughed.

“I don’t think I want to hear your bullshit excuses.” She said and I slammed my fist into the counter, making her jump.

“Dammit, Katerina, just fucking listen to me for once! You can listen to the others, hell you can take the man who shot at you and was your enemy only weeks ago into your bed but you can’t fucking listen to me for five minutes?” I shouted, then immediately regretted it when she took a few steps toward me, a cold look in her eyes before she grabbed a knife from the knife block near my hand and had it pressed against my throat before I knew what she was doing.

“Raise your voice at me again, Hamish, and see what happens.” She said softly and I swallowed, feeling the blade scrape my skin.

“I don’t care what you do, Katerina. Slit my throat if you must, but I will shout until my last breath to make sure you hear me and understand how I fucking feel about you.” I said hoarsely and watched the emotions cloud her eyes.

“Talk.” She commanded and fuck my cock, it jumped with greedy need at her tone.

“I think I am in love with you,” I whispered and she raised an eyebrow.

“You think?” She repeated and I sighed.

“I’ve never been in love before so I don’t know. All I do know is I can’t stop thinking about you. You are the first thing I think about when I wake up, the last thing I think of before I go to sleep. I enjoy our little games because I have never met a woman who is willing to tear a man's driveway up before, especially when she has the ability to kill him instead.” I watched her lips quirk at that, but her hand remained steady on the knife at my throat.

“Being near you drives me crazy, I want to touch you, to feel you against me, I want to smell your scent on my skin, and hearing you with the others makes me insanely jealous, but even more when I hear you tell them you love them,” I said, realizing the truth in my own words.

“I want to kill anyone who has touched you or looks at you in the wrong way. I want to spend every moment with you. If that isn’t love, then I must be fucking insane.” I said with a huff of a breath, staring into her eyes.

“If you love me, why did you lie to me?” She whispered and I reached up to wrap my hand around her wrist.

“I didn’t lie. I just didn’t want to tell you about the shit show that is my life because I had hoped to have it fixed.” I said and she sighed.

“What is it with you men and not telling me about your fucking lives because you think it will protect me from whatever delicate feminine senses you think I have.” She muttered as she lowered the knife.

“We are men, Love. We have an inbuilt need to fix our problems without asking for help. It’s biological. Like never reading maps or asking for directions.” I said with a wary grin and she rolled her eyes, muttering something in Russian under her breath.

“Tell me your problem.” She said with a nod at the chair and I smiled, grateful that she was listening.

“Thank fuck, man. I did not want to clean up blood at this time in the morning.” Alexsei said from behind me and I glared at him.

“How long were you standing there?” I asked and he shrugged.

“Came out when you shouted then stood back to see if you would both finally fuck and get it over with.” He said and Katerina shot him a look and snapped something in Russian that made him laugh.

“So, what do you want to know?” I asked and she leaned against the counter.

“Start from the beginning.” She said with a businesslike expression, and I sighed. I guess it was now or never.

“I killed my father.”

Forty one

Katerina

Istared at Hamish, not sure what to say in response to that.

Alexsei made a noise of disagreement as he sat down, making me wonder just how much he actually knew about this situation with Hamish.
