“Bring it on, fuckers.”

Forty nine

Katerina

Leo was late. Later than his text said, and I had a sinking feeling.

“Where is he? It can’t take that long to go over paperwork.” Hamish said with a groan, and I glanced at him.

“Something is wrong. He sent me a text an hour ago that he was on his way. We need to go.” I said before I grabbed the keys.

Riley took them from me with a frown.

“I’ll drive. You need to eat something.” He handed me a sandwich he had just finished making in the kitchen as he looked over the store.

“Everyone is gone. I’ll lock up early. Come on.” He gestured to the door as he switched off the lights and locked away the register.

It was only a few minutes before his usual closing time anyway so I doubt it would affect much, not that I liked my business interfering with his.

“Let’s go,” I said as I took the sandwich, biting into it and moaning with happiness at the tartness from the pickles.

“God this is good,” I muttered as Hamish watched me with amusement, opening the back door for me to slide in.

We drove in silence to the gym and when I spotted Leo’s car still parked out the front, I knew something bad had happened.

We got out and looked around the gym, not seeing him anywhere, Hamish went inside and I searched the car and found it unlocked.

“Something is really fucking wrong,” I muttered as Hamish came out, shaking his head.

“Fuck! Someone has him.” I snarled as I began to pace.

“I’ll call Theo and see if he can hack into the cameras to check,” Riley said as he pulled out his phone.

A beat-up Ford came screaming down the road and I reached for my gun as the door opened and a man was pushed from the moving car to the street. My stomach sank as I recognized him.

“Leo,” I whispered as the car’s wheels spun and they took off.

“Get the license plate,” I shouted as I ran toward Leo, seeing nothing but blood all over him.

“LEO! I screamed as I rolled him over, checking for a pulse.

“He is still alive. Call an ambulance.” I shouted as people started walking out of the gym to look.

“Leo, stay with me okay? You stay with me.” I whispered as I looked over his swollen face.

“Hey, sweetheart. Sorry…I’m…late.” He gasped and I sobbed, stroking his hair.

“You better be. You worried me you asshole.” I said as I looked over his body, not sure where to start.

“Ambulance is on its way,” Riley said as he knelt down beside me.

“Who did this, Leo,” I said as I rested his head in my lap.

“It’s nottttthiiinnng.” He mumbled and I wanted to shake him.

“Dammit, Leo! Tell me who fucking did this!” I snarled and I glanced up to see Tamika standing there with a smirk.

“You….” I said as I went to grab my gun by my side, Hamish stopping me.
