“Trust me, I understand your frustration. Kenji has everything set up in my office. This is the safest place for you to be right now.” He added and I glared at him.
“Caleb is right. We fixed this place up more secure than our own home. Caleb wanted to keep his sheep safe.” The man I know knew was Luca said with a grin.
“Don’t insult me under my roof.” Caleb snapped and Luca held his hands up as the doors opened and a determined-looking crew of men walked in with women not far behind.
“Madden. Mendez. What’s with the posse?” Luca asked as Mikhail chuckled.
“Don’t call us that, Luca. We are here for moral support. Us mob wives have to stick together and since we know what happened…” the woman gave me a sympathetic look and I frowned in confusion.
“She will need some womanly support.” She added and I spotted Rosslyn trailing behind them, her pregnant stomach so big that she looked like a belly with legs.
“What do you mean? What happened?” I asked as I looked at Mikhail who winced.
“I didn’t want to tell you all like this. It isn’t something you say so crudely.” He said and Hamish gripped his arm.
“Tell me now or I’ll beat it from you. What the fuck happened?” He snarled and Mikhail looked so damn grim I was sure he was about to say Katerina was dead.
“When we got to the hotel room, Katerina went through…” He hesitated and I wanted to shake him, satisfied when Hamish did exactly that.
“What? Spit it out, man.” He snapped and Mikhail let out a long breath.
“She went through a miscarriage.” He said softly and all the blood ran from my face as Riley inhaled deeply and Hamish swore.
“She was pregnant?” I asked and Hamish looked guilty.
“We just found out this morning. I hadn’t told you yet because well, we were busy being exploded and I thought she should be the one to tell you.” He said as his voice broke.
Riley gripped his shoulder and I tried to process what they were saying.
She went through that without us and now she was a prisoner, going through god knows what.
“Alexsei’s tracker is online. We have the location.” Kenji yelled from another room.
“Get our woman back,” I said with conviction as I watched Hamish strap guns to his thighs.
“I’ll do just that. Or die trying.” He added and I gripped his arm.
“No. No dying. You need to get back in one piece. We are a family.” I said, the truth of it ringing in my heart.
He nodded and clapped me on the shoulder as Riley smiled grimly.
I watched all the men file out, knowing that the Serpents were waiting outside as well, and felt hopeless that I couldn’t go.
“I’m so sorry, Leo. I can’t imagine what you are going through right now, finding out and then having it taken from you in the next breath.” Rosslyn said softly and I shrugged.
“I can put my emotions aside or now. I just need to see her alive and well. I need her in my arms.” I said firmly and Rosslyn smiled.
“I have all the faith in the world in these men. I’ve seen them do amazing things. They will get your woman back.” She gripped my hand and sat down on the pew next to me.
“And Katerina is the strongest woman I know. She will get through this, and you will all recover as a family. I promise.” She added and I squeezed her hand.
“I hope so.”
