I sent a little prayer to God as I watched Konstantin smile at Alexsei.

“Well, don’t keep us waiting in suspense. Give us your villain story.” I spat at him, and he shook his head as if he expected more from me.

“You realize that all of this could have been avoided all those years ago if you had just followed through with the marriage agreement?” He said with a look at I think was pity.

“What? You would have killed me sooner?” I said with a sweet smile and he shrugged.

“That would have depended on you. But then you had to go and fall in love with Yuri and our plans changed. It was probably for the better anyway.” He said as he glanced at his watch.

“Why? I don’t understand. Why did you send men to steal my photo album?” I asked, needing to figure out that little piece of information.

“Ah. That was to be sure. I didn’t believe the contact I was dealing with, and I needed assurance.” He said cryptically and I wanted to scream with frustration.

“What contact?” I asked and he glanced over his shoulder as one of his men bent over to whisper in his ear.

“Would you like to meet them? I have so been looking forward to this little plot twist making itself known to you.” He said, pushing his chair back with a sly smile.

“Fuck. If it means you will shut the fuck up, I’ll meet whoever you want at this point.” I muttered and Alexsei sighed.

“You are going to get us shot before the cavalry arrives.” He whispered under his breath.

“I don’t think so. He has a plan, and that plan is to stroke his own ego.” I shot back as Konstantin gestured to someone just past the cell door.

“Allow me to introduce to you, the mysterious White Fox.” He said with an elaborate bow, and I felt my blood run cold as I watched the person step into view.

“No,” I whispered, unable to believe what I was seeing.

“You’re dead. You died.” I added as I stared in horror at the person behind it all.

“Hello, daughter.” My mother said with a cold smile.

“Well fuck.” Alexsei muttered and I started laughing.

“This is a joke. This isn’t real.” I said as I bent over, cackling like a crazy person.

“I assure you. It is real. Sit down, please.” She said primly as Konstantin smiled like the cat who got the mouse.

“Sit. Down.” She snapped and I sat down next to Alexsei, needing to understand.

“I don’t understand. Someone put a hit out on you and my father.” I whispered and she laughed.

“I put the hit out on your father.” She said with a shrug.

“Why?” I said as I struggled to comprehend that not only was my mother alive, but she killed my father.

“Because that was always the plan. Did you think I wanted to marry him? He was weak. Under his control, the Bratva suffered here and became a laughing joke. Then he left it to Ivan who was so focused on his own bitter revenge that Moscow watched on with shame.” She said with a glare.

“And me? Why did you try and kill me?” I asked and she smiled indulgently.

“I didn’t. Not really. I had hoped that once you took control, then things would change. I have watched you over the years grow into a woman I am proud to call my daughter. Then Yuri happened and you grew weak. I had to get rid of him.” She said with a shrug and I shook my head.

“No. Yuri was killed by Ivan.” I said and she laughed.

“How do you think Ivan found out that Yuri was feeding information to the police?” She said with a wicked smile.

“You!” I said as the shock morphed into anger.

“Yes. That set you back on the right path. But then you got control and things began to fall again. I had hoped you would step up, but then you shamed not only me, but our entire family and Konstantin, the man you had been destined to be with by sleeping with not one, but four men!” She said with disgust.
