“I don’t know. I will let Benjamin know when I know more.” I inhaled as I pushed the needle through my skin and Liam huffed a breath through the phone.

“Do I need to bring a medic or a cleaner?” He asked softly and I met Riley’s eyes, knowing I wasn’t going to be able to talk my way out of this one.

“No. Just some broken glass. How long until you are here?” I took another swig of the vodka, loving the harsh burn as it ran through my body.

“Twenty. I’m leaving now.” He said before hanging up.

Riley stared at me before looking at my arm and gestured to the needle as I tried to fumble with it.

“Let me.” He said, taking it from me.

His cologne was subtle, invading my senses and reminding me of the kiss earlier as he concentrated on what he was doing.

His fingers were gentle as he finished, and I watched him pour a splash of vodka onto the corner of the towel and wipe it over my skin before he placed a bandage over it.

He looked at me, his fingers lingering on my skin, then glanced around at the room behind me with all the broken glass before looking at my gun on the counter.

“Are you ready to tell me about your life now, Kat?” He said and I looked away.

“Riley… It isn’t safe. This world, my life, it isn’t safe for you.” I whispered and before I could walk away, he gripped my goodarm, pushing me back against the counter before he caged me in with his arms.

“Why don’t you tell me and let me make my own decisions, Katerina? I’m not a boy and I am not weak or soft. Give me enough respect to tell me the truth.” His voice was low, gravelly, and nothing like the Riley I knew.

This man was different, he was forceful, dominant, and damn sexy. He was also right. He deserved to know the truth, even if it did terrify me what might come of it.

“I’m not just a businesswoman. I’m the head of the Bratva.”

Riley

“I’m the head of the Bratva.” She said softly, wariness in her eyes.

“As in the Russian mob? Like crime families who kill people, deal in drugs, and everything else under the sun?” I asked, feeling like she was joking.

“Yeah. I don’t personally deal with those kinds of things; I have people who answer to me for that. I’m more ‘big picture’ of making sure things run smoothly.” I looked at the broken glass all over her living room and raised an eyebrow.

“It doesn’t look like things are going smoothly,” I said and she snorted a laugh before narrowing her eyes.

“No. I’m having some problems. You are taking this rather well.” She said before she shifted, and her arm brushed mine.

“What do you want me to do, run away screaming? I mean, I’m trying to let it sink in that there are crime families here and that the woman I have been in love with for five years runs one, but ifI’m completely honest, it kind of makes sense.” I said as I shook my head.

Maybe this was all a big fucking fever dream or something. Kat inhaled, her bare chest covered in blood smears and the thin silk fabric of her nightgown a reminder of just how little lay between us.

“There are crime families everywhere. Riley…” She started to talk, and I took the opportunity to stop her with a kiss.

I should have backed off, given her space, or at least made sure she was okay, but hearing her say someone was breaking into her home and then not being able to get through to her again had terrified me.

Finding her bleeding and surrounded by broken glass after two men ran from her home, that had cemented to me that I wasn’t going to play it cool anymore.

Unless she told me to go away, hell, at this point, she would have to shoot me, before I left. I was done waiting and the way she kissed me now, the taste of vodka on her tongue, the warmth of her body pressed against mine as she ran her fingers through my hair, I knew she wanted me too.

I groaned into her mouth as she pulled me closer, her fingers threading through my hair.

I gripped her hips, grinding against her as I nipped her bottom lip, the moan escaping from her sending me wild.

“Ahem. Should I come back?” A male voice said from behind me, and I turned to see a man grinning, his badge clearly sitting on the hip of his jeans.
