“You always were a terrible shot.” I taunted and glanced at Leo who was staring at me in disbelief.

“You are done, Katerina. The Bratva won’t follow you.” One of the men shouted back and I sighed. So much for keeping who I am secret from Leo.

I stood, aiming at the rear window, knowing that one of Alexsei’s men would be in there ready with more ammo and pulled the trigger then ducked back down behind my car.

When I heard the groan and swearing, I knew I had hit my target.

“You don’t have a choice. You either fall in line beneath me, or you are my enemy. You know what happens to my enemies.” I said before I heard a car door slam and when I stood to look, I sighed as the car drove off.

“Fucking cowards,” I muttered before looking down at the ground where the remnants of my coffee were soaking into the road.

This meeting had been a set up and Victor had just made my list.

“Do you want to explain to me why we just got shot at and why they said the Bratva wouldn’t follow you?” Leo asked and I grimaced.

“This is a conversation I would rather not have here in the street. I need another coffee.” I added before I looked at my car.

“Get in mine,” Leo muttered and I had to admit he was taking this rather well.

“So, you work for the Bratva.” He said as he turned on the car.

I snorted my amusement and prepared myself for the inevitable freak-out that he was about to have.

“No. I am the head of the Bratva.”

Katerina

“What do you mean, you are the head of the Bratva?” He asked and I stared at him.

“Exactly that. I killed the boss and took his place.” I said as we pulled back into the parking lot of Inked Latte.

“It didn’t look like your people were taking orders well.” He said and I laughed. That wasn’t what I expected. Maybe he was in shock.

“No. I have a problem. Not everyone wants to follow my lead. Most don’t like the idea of a woman in charge, and many were loyal to Ivan.” He turned the car off, nodding as if it were the most normal thing for someone to tell him.

“Why did you kill him?” he asked, shocking me more.

“I found out he was the reason someone I loved was killed,” I said, emotion making my voice crack as I thought about Yuri.

“Are you okay?” He asked me, reaching over to touch my cheek and I flinched at the contact. He pulled away; his face grim.

“You have blood on your cheek.” He said and I flipped the sun visor down to look in the mirror.

“Looks like some of the glass cut me. You are taking this rather well.” I added as I opened the door.

He got out and followed me to the door, opening it before I could.

“I have seen some things in my time. You don’t run a gym on the outskirts of Industrial Park and not see some things. I fight in MMA comps. I am no stranger to violence.” He said, holding the door open for me.

I eyed him suspiciously before walking into the café. Riley saw me and his face lit up before he frowned.

“Why are you bleeding?” he said, his voice accusatory as he looked at Leo.

“Had an accident with my car. Something shattered the windscreen and the glass cut me.” I said.

He stared at me; mouth open.
