“Fuck you. Andy knows about aliens, too.”

“Is that a question?”

I bit the inside of my cheek. I released a shuddering breath. Later I can get mad. Later I can rage. Right now, I want a fucking burger. “You know what I said.”

His phone beeped, and he glanced at it. “Yes.”

I squeezed my eyes shut for a second and then drove. Fuck all these damn lies. And fuck all these feelings.

Chapter 31

Ricon

Chloe was taking this surprisingly well. Just like she hoped, there was no line at the fast food place and we grabbed lunch. When we parked the car, she ripped into her food after shoving mine into my hands. “Eat.”

“Are you?—”

“I’m hungry. I’m going to eat. After that, I’m going to yell for five minutes at you in this car. Then we’re going back to work. Then . . .” Her eyes unfocused as she drifted into a thought. “More yelling. Yes. That’s happening.”

She turned away from me and ate another bite. My phone beeped again. I glanced at it.

Computer

I don’t know what you did to that human. Her vitals are elevated. But it does not seem related to your pheromones or mating response.

Me

She knows

Her phone beeped. With one hand, she pulled the phone out of her pocket. Confusion crossed her face. “Why is your old boss textingget on that knotto me?”

“My old boss?”

“Pixa? Really weird?”

I pulled my phone up and quickly sent a text message to the ship.

Computer

Yes. She likes GIFs and memes. You do not.

My groan echoed through the car. “That’s my ship. It may be sentient.”

Her eyes scanned the phone screen again. “Knot?”

“Ignore it. I really need to pull it apart.”

Chloe turned so dark that I thought she was going to pass out. “Chloe?”

“You have a knot?” she whispered. “You said you had a mate?”

“Yes. They must have been at the space station I was at.”

“Are you sure?”

“Had to be,” I said.

“Why do you affect me like this? This isn’t natural, I . . . I thought I was going crazy.”
