“Exit the screen. Fucking witch.” That might have been a slur. I winced as I realized it.
He grunted and blacked the screen. “You’re not human either.”
“No.”
“Who are you?” Roger looked at me, but it was eerie. Like he could see something more.
I glared at him. “Not telling you.”
“Does Andy know you are here?”
“No, and you won’t tell her.”
“Are you the one that I need to protect her from?”
“No. Evidently, they have infiltrated our workplace. They’ve already targeted her before.”
His fingers slipped over the screen. “It’s a hybrid.” Yearning dripped in his voice as he looked at the tablet. That was odd.
“Yeah. She even hit me for a second, which is crazy because my mating bond has been activated. There’re more on Earth than we thought. How many have been hiding here because there aren’t eyes of the Imperium here?”
“What’s scary is how many mynyuns have been taken and used as breeders?” He looked away from the tablet and looked at me. “Why are you here?”
“My ship broke. I’m fixing it.”
“Does the human know you’re an alien?”
“Just found out. My device stopped working for a moment.”
“I have an extra one if you want it.”
“I’m fine. I think I have fixed it since the last malfunction.”
A hoarse laugh erupted from Roger. “I know you’re not using the same tech as me. So I guess it’s not reliable.”
“I made it. How’d you meet Andy?”
“I tried to save her life. I was about to be committed to one of the prison planets, and she saved me. Pushed her weight around to free me then told me to go protect her friend. She didn’t realize there was already an alien in her own house.”
“Andy and Chloe are fighting.”
“Well, does she realize things are going to change for Andy?”
“I am not sure.”
“The universe is going to change. She saved my life. I wouldn’t do well on a prison planet.”
“Andy’s pretty good. She saved an away team by sacrificing herself. And the Emperor. Hopefully, she will change things for the better.”
“Things weren’t that bad.”
“Yet the Advisor roped you into doing his bidding? That’s the only way that you would have been sent to the prison planet.”
He grunted. I made a plate of food and covered it. “I’ve got to go out for a bit. That’s Chloe’s food. You can serve yourself.”
“Is she your mate?”
“Of course not. She’s only a human.”
