“Yes. But what about your mate?”
“She’s a human,” I replied like that answered everything.
“Why do you think she can’t be your mate?”

“Then you’ll be bonded to her.”
“No. I’ve heard of our kind knotting without a bond. She’ll see it’s not worth it.”

“Why haven’t you been worried about it before?” I asked.

Another gif went across the screen, but I turned away from it. “She’s too perfect. She’s not for me.”
“She’s not the next empress of the universe. She’s just a normal human. Promise. You won’t have a Chex situation.”
“She can’t be my mate,” I whispered.
“I’ve found stories of people connecting before the bond started.”
“I’ve never heard of them.”
“You were too busy looking at the sky, the stars, and your gadgets. I’ve snuck through your records.”

“And now you’re just a pirate.”
“We might be legit now. We have the future empress on the ship.”
“Weird. Imperium pirates.”
“I need to find an amazing place to take Chloe on the best date ever. I need to impress her and treat her like the prize she is.”
