“Jamie and Milo went to meet up with Tyler,” Kai says. “We were just walking around until they came back.”

I can’t help watching the face-off between Yvette and Tabitha. It soon morphs into both girls clinging to their boyfriends and doing their best to ignore the other’s existence.

Tabitha smiles at me. “Hi Kylie. Having a good night?”

“Yes, thanks,” I say with an unmistakable squeak. “You?”

She nods, wrapping an arm around Kai. “So much fun.”

Yvette clears her throat in the most unsubtle way possible. “Umm, hello. I’m here too.”

Tabitha doesn’t look her way. Instead, inspecting her cuticles.

Lewis shifts by Yvette, searching for something to say. His silence only irritates Yvette, who huffs and glares at him.

Kai waits for his girlfriend to answer. When it’s obvious she won’t, he glances at Lewis and Yvette. “Anyone gone on the tilt-a-whirl yet?”

“It’s our next choice,” Lewis says, relieved at the subject change.

Kai pans around the group. “Should we head over?”

Tabitha frowns. “I’m not in the mood.”

Kai’s enthusiasm drops. “Oh. That’s cool, we don’t have to.”

Yvette scoffs. “Doesn’t mean we can’t.”

Tabitha doesn’t look her way, but her eye roll registers.

Yvette leans forward to make sure I catch her grin. “I mean, we’re all on a double date. Double means just two couples. Right, Kylie?”

Oh gosh. This is beyond awkward. Why does she have to bring me into this? I hug my middle, hoping someone else will chime in so I don’t have to speak.

Noticing my anxious shifting beside him, Parker grabs everyone’s attention. “Why not bumper cars? They’re right over there.”

I blink at him. Wait, what?

I pan around at all the faces, and they’re onboard.

Everyone is into this idea.

Oh, crap. Do they expect me to drive one?
