With everyone in approval, the dread seeping into my stomach gets even worse.

Parker pulls me close to him. “Why do you look worried again?”

“Bumper cars?” I wince. “That’s literally getting into a tiny car for the sole purpose of being hit by other tiny cars.”

Parker sniggers. “Exactly.”

“Hey, kid,” the sideshow worker grunts, lifting the stuffed bunny. “Are you taking this or not?”

Parker grabs the bunny and hands it to me.

I take it with a huff. “Getting hit is the opposite of my idea of fun.”

“Don’t be a wet blanket, Kikki.”

Before I can protest, Parker lifts me into the air. I yelp as he hoists me against him, causing me to straddle my legs around his torso.

“Oh my gosh, put me down,” I whine, dripping in embarrassment.

Parker chuckles, carrying me toward the bumper cars. “No. You’re too adorable.”

He looks up at me, smiling, as I look down at him. Without meaning to, I focus on the shine of his lips and a thrill runs down my spine.

Stop it, Kylie.

I plant a hand over his lips and murmur, “It’s still off the table.”

His laughter vibrates against my hand and then I feel his lips pucker. I fling my hand off after he presses a kiss against my palm.

He sends me a wink and lowers me to the ground at the ticket line.

Yvette and Lewis make their way onto the track first. Yvette practically skips as she drags Lewis to her car of choice.

Tabitha and Kai, on the other hand, are more casual in their approach. When Tabitha doesn’t squeal or make an exaggerated fuss over the tiniest thing, it sucks even more that Parker doesn’t want me to be friends with her.

After Parker buys our tickets, he guides me by the shoulders to our bumper car.

“You want to drive?” he asks.

I lift my palms. “Heck no.”

He mumbles a laugh as he stretches the oversized seatbelt across both our bodies. The music pumps louder through the speakers, and the bumper car engines fire up. My head yanks backward when our car takes off.

“Whoa,” I hum, holding onto the edge of the car.

“Hands in,” Parker warns. “Someone will drive past and crush them.”

I suck in a breath and swiftly plant my hands between my thighs.

Parker takes a wide berth around two cars and then steers our car like a missile toward Yvette and Lewis. I brace myself for imminent impact, but then we’re struck from behind. We both grunt as the car spins out.
