Parker lets out a hearty laugh. “He wouldn’t dance?”

My hands press into the sides of my face. “It was completely embarrassing. I never should’ve told him about these stupid house rules. He looked at me like I was a total loser.”

Parker plucks my hands off my face. “Kikki, you’re not a loser.”

My eyes water as I pout. “Yes, I am.”

His eyes droop. “No, you’re not. You’re fun and cool. Maybe Lewis was too embarrassed to show off his lame moves.” Parker points and sways his hips in a goofy disco fashion. “Not everyone can be as awesome as me.”

I giggle, wiping my eyes. “This is what I mean though. You danced the minute you walked through the door. Lewis didn’t look embarrassed for himself. He was embarrassed for me.”

“Aww.” Parker pulls an arm around me. “Don’t say that. You look so sad. He was just in a mood because of Yvie. It wasn’t about you.”

His arm slides off me as I open the waffle maker. The divine smell lifts my sullen mood.

Parker gasps. “Oh my gosh, that looks amazing.”

I plate up the waffle, drizzle it with maple syrup and slide the plate toward him. “All yours.”

“I’ll wait to eat with you.”

I pour in the batter for the next waffle. “Okay, thanks.”

While the next waffle sizzles, we don’t speak. In our silence, we bob along to a catchy pop song. I even catch Parker mumbling the words when he thinks I’m not looking.

When we move over to the table, which is tucked in the corner, I happily announce, “Bon appétit.”

Parker gives a thumbs up after his first mouthful. “Thanks, Kylie. This is delicious.”

“I’m glad you’re here to eat it with me. I hate having good food without anyone to share it with.”

“Girl, you can text me anytime you’re in the kitchen. I’ll always be down to eat your food.”

I wink, lifting my fork for another bite. “Noted.”

“Are you feeling better? I’m sorry seeing Lewis yesterday left you in such a crappy mood.”

“I’m better. Nothing a good waffle can’t fix.” I tilt my head, looking out the window at Lewis’s house. “Although, Lewis didn’t sound very confident yesterday. Maybe Yvie won’t go on the camping trip.”

“That would suck. Then we would be dealing with a mopey Lewis.”

“Dancing doesn’t fix anything for him, but I could bake something to cheer him up.”

“Now, that’s being positive.” Parker lifts his fork. “Lewis is such a dope. Have you noticed every time Yvie and Tabby argue, Lewis stands there and does nothing. It always leaves me arguing with Kai, while Lewis hangs back.”

I shovel in a mouthful, waiting for him to make his point.

“If I were with Yvie, she and Tabitha would be friends already.”

I raise my eyebrow because my mouth’s too full to comment.

“I’m serious,” he says. “You can tell Yvie wants her friend back. She was so excited when they came off that ride. Lewis just let it escalate to the point you got hurt. And then he annoyed Yvie by getting more concerned over your cut than her.”

I swallow. “Isn’t that the point? He’s supposed to be more into me than her?”

Parker sits taller. “Yeah, totally. I’m just saying, he’s not suited to be with Yvie.”

“Compared to you, who’d make everything magically better?”
