Panic sets in as he utters a string of “no’s,” his usual cool demeanor shattered by the urgency of the situation.

The severity of the situation hits me like a ton of bricks.

My breath becomes shallow and labored as realization dawns on me.

Things aren’t okay, and I’m struggling to stay calm and conscious with all of the chaos unfolding around me.

I begin hyperventilating. “Dad, I don’t want to die. Oh, fuck I’m scared. Am I dying? This is so bad.” I’m struggling to breathe as I get every word out.

Tears spill down my cheeks as fast as they can fall, and I notice Jada is crying, too.

With all the emotion covering her face, I know this is much worse than I originally thought.

“There’s no need to worry, baby.” My dad is trying his best to comfort me, but I can’t miss the way his hands are shaking uncontrollably. “I’m going to take care of you.”

Dad yells over to the Satan’s Raiders MC’s president, “Breaker!”

Breaker’s barking out orders, telling Chains to get the car.

Are they driving me to the hospital?

They must be, and it’s probably better that they do.

The ambulance could take at least ten minutes to get here.

I start to speak up, looking between my father and aunt, “I thought they were in costumes. I didn’t k-know.”

Jada immediately speaks up, emotion thick in her voice. “Baby girl, don’t you do it. This isn’t your fault. There’s no way for you to have known that this was going to happen.”

Tears come rolling down my cheeks even harder.

Dad speaks up, “Hold on, baby girl. I’m here. I got you.”

Breaker’s voice rings out from behind them. “We need to move right now.”

My voice is weak as pain takes over my body. “Dad, it hurts. It hurts so bad.”

My dad turns and looks up at Breaker. I think he’s about to say something, but then Fury charges over to us.

He looks at the group of us, his words frantic. “Come on, man. We’re ready. We need to move.”

Dad doesn’t move at all, and I struggle to maintain control over my breathing.

Jada snarls at my father. “Hammer, look at me! We need to get up now. You guys are going to carry her to the car, and we’re getting her to the hospital as quickly as possible.”

He nods, finally snapping out of it.

Jada looks at me and speaks with a calm voice, “Oakleigh, baby girl. This is going to hurt, but just stay with us, okay? We need to move you. The boys are going to lift you up. They’ll go slow.”

I take in a couple of short breaths and nod. “Okay, I’m ready.”

She keeps her hand over my wound as my father and Fury lift me up.

A blood-curdling scream passes through my lips.

Jada pleads with them as she lets go of my wound. “Hurry, please.”

In what feels like hours, they get me into the back of the SUV.
