Julius shifted and crouched down to look at the ground. “There’s a small pool of blood here.”
“I know.” I threw my arms up in the air. “I’m going after him.”
“You’ve got us with you.” Julius nodded and shifted back.
I ran out of the cave and let my body shift in mid-air, digging my paws deep into the earth when I landed and ran.
Logan, Ashton, Evan, Charity, and Julius stayed close to my back as I followed my mate and Simon’s scent through the woods. Small drops of blood led the way like a trail of breadcrumbs.
If Simon hurt him, I would rain down hell and pay him back in kind.
The sweet thoughts of mating ran from my mind as rage grew inside me. I knew what a bastard Simon could be. I’d dealt with it all four years of college and now I only had one thought that filled my mind.
That disgusting maggot hurt my mate.
We were coming up on Grimclaw land, and the woods darkened. An ominous feeling grew in the pit of my stomach. A muffled howl sliced through the darkness and I heard Simon’s loud voice.
“That’s right.” His sardonic laugh drifted to my ears. “He’s here for your public fun. Fuck him, run a train on him, spank him, do whatever you want.”
“I can’t wait to get my hands on his soft skin.” Someone sneered from the crowd. “Uppity omega.”
“He needs to learn not to reject his alpha!” Simon sneered. “It’s time for some good old-fashioned pack punishment!”
Cheers filled the air, and I heard my pack mates growl. The smell of apples mixed with fear grew stronger, and I abandoned the bloody scent on the trail and followed the apple scent.
Simon’s voice got louder the closer we got, and my lips lifted in a snarl.
“Take the gag out, see what he wants.” Simon commanded. “I warned you if you kept being defiant, I would teach you what happens when you defy your alpha.”
“Please don’t do this.” A soft voice sobbed.
“Do you accept me as your alpha, little bitch?”
Silence hung heavy as we cleared the woods and I saw the small guy who ran into me this morning strapped to a stretching bench.
His voice wavered with each word. “You. Are. Not. My. Alpha!”
He followed those brave words by spitting in Simon’s face, causing Simon to let go of his head, and brought his fisted hand across the side of my mate’s face, slicing his cheek open.
“Leave the gag off.” He sneered, and I saw the evil smile creep along his face. “I want to hear his screams.”
I pushed myself harder and launched myself at Simon before he laid another hand on my mate. I could hear all around gasps, and I heard the breath knocked out of the bastard as I tackled him to the ground.
“Shit!” He choked out, closing his eyes trying to breathe.
“That’s not fair!” Bradley yelled. “Wolf to wolf or man to man!”
Julius let out a barking howl, and I heard his paws stomping the ground.
I snapped at Simon’s face and backed off his chest, waiting to see which way he wanted to fight.
Simon sat up, rubbing his chest. “I was going to have fun with my omega, but since you want to fight.”
A low, deep growl rumbled out from my chest. My eyes stayed glued to my adversary, and Charity spoke behind me.
“Hang on, Nolan.”
Nolan. My mate’s name was Nolan.
