“Am I misreading things?” His chest heaved with a sigh. “Or are you courting me?”

“Um.” I tilted my head, thinking. “Yeah, I think I am.”

My dads prepared me for the time my mate entered my life. Woo them. Make them feel special. Be there with them. Support them.

“But only because I’m your mate.”

Wait. What?

I glanced over and saw his shoulders folding inward.

“It’s not only that.” Confusion laced my voice.

“Whatever.” He snapped. “You didn’t even know I existed until I ran into you. I’ve seen you all around campus. You treated me like a bothersome fly.”

My brain went into overdrive trying to remember when I saw him before he crashed into me.

“You know what else?” His voice wavered as he rambled on. “I’mnotthe only omega who feels like a piece of fucking meat for alphas.

Where is this coming from? Is he trying to pick a fight?

“Nolan.”

“Just… don’t. I don’t need the excuses and bullshit.” He pulled his hand from mine turning in his seat, giving me his back.

Had I treated him like that?

Pops always told me, you can be right or you can be happy. Can’t be both in a relationship. I never understood that advice until now.

Now I know how he survived Simon’s torture. He’s got spunk.

I kept my mouth shut and let him get out whatever he needed to before we walked into the lodge to face Simon and Lane.

Clearing my throat, I turned on the main street that lead to the lodge. As we drove closer, I saw my dad’s car, Julius’s car and Dillon’s. The small group of them were waiting outside for us as I parked near them.

Nolan popped his door open, got out, slammed it behind him, and went to my dad, Leslie.

Leslie wasn’t an omega, he was a gamma. So his body acted like an omega’s would in heat without the heat cycle. Looking around the small, assembled group, he was the one who best understood how Nolan felt.

“Ready to do this?” Dillon looked at Nolan and he nodded his head. “Let’s go.”

Dillon held the door open for us all to enter, and then he brought up the rear. Arden led the way into the main hall and pointed at the tables assembled for us to sit at.

Lane scratched the scruff on his face and sneered. “Since youneededa third party, I called a judge in from the Arcadius Sleuth.”

The lone man sitting at the head of the room made me look tiny, but I knew him. Judge Glover made a name for himself in Northvale. Steadfast, honest and fair.

His deep baritone voice startled Nolan, who jumped back when he spoke. “If you would take your seats, we can begin.”

Nolan sat between Leslie and me at the far end of the table, and everyone else took a seat.

“Since this issue stems from Grimclaw, Lane, if you would please state the complaint.” He motioned towards the left-hand table where Simon sat with Bradley, his parents, and their delta, Ivory.

“My son has the complaint.” His eyes locked onto Nolan’s and he sneered. “Simon can tell you.”

I felt his hand settle on my thigh, and I covered it with mine, hoping he understood I supported him.

“Nolan Wallace and I have been a couple since middle school. You can ask anyone in the pack. And as you are aware, each pack has their own way of dealing with people who break the rules.”
