“Us?”

“Well, I didn’t get to finish my explorations.”

He grinned. “How about we try to explore without pudding for now?”

“I suppose we can use the raisins.” She turned around and stretched, almost falling off the bed in her eagerness to grab the box.

Sam let out a growl behind her and she glanced back, grinning at the look on his face as he stared straight between her legs.

She wiggled her butt. “See something you like?”

He caught her around her waist, flipped her over so that she landed on top of him and kissed her breathless.

Things progressed from there and she never did snag any of those raisins, though she supposed in the end, the sexy times were a fair trade for the chocolate.

She thought about that for a while, as she lay on Sam’s chest, listening to his heart thud after a particularly vigorous bout of sexy times.

“You know, I’m hard-pressed to say the results of these experiments. I guess the answer is that the only better than chocolate and the only thing better than sex is chocolatey sex.”

Sam let out a bark of laughter.

“Here’s the weird thing, though. At first, I wanted the chocolate with our sex, but once we got going, I didn’t really miss it, mostly because I forgot all about it.”

“I’ll take that as a compliment.” Sam grinned.

“Well, considering I’m fairly certain not every male would be capable of making me forget that chocolate even exists, yes, you should definitely take that as a compliment.”

“I don’t really know how to react to that.”

“The thing is, the experiment will not be complete until I have some chocolate pudding without the sex. Because the question now is, will I miss the sex while eating the chocolate?”

“You’d damn well better,” Sam said.

Merry started to laugh, then quickly put a hand over her mouth. “Sorry.”

“Why?”

“Well, you know, the demons don’t really like my laugh. They say I sound too demonic, which doesn’t make any sense. How can a half-demon be too demonic? Anyway, that was one of the rules my dad always set for me—no laughing around demons. Or in Hell anywhere. Which pretty much meant no laughing.”

“Well, that’s some shitty parenting,” Sam said. “What kind of father forbids his kid from laughing?”

“Well, you have to understand, anytime I laughed, it freaked out the demons and they would just attack because well, that’s what demons do when they’re afraid. So, there I was, this little toddler being attacked by full-grown, scary-ass demons. Yeah, my dad didn’t know what to do, so he had a witch cast a spell binding my laughter.”

Sam looked horrified.

“Oh, don’t worry, the binding spell dissipated when I turned ten. It was just, you know, to get me through the vulnerable years.”

“Well, you never have to worry about that with me. I love the sound of your laughter.”

Merry sent him a look that seemed to be a mix of skepticism and hope.

“It’s true,” he insisted, injecting as much sincerity in his voice as he could.

Okay, so he wasn’t sure how he managed that exactly, but now that he knew how everyone else had reacted to the sound of his mate’s laughter, he was determined to be different.

Never mind that the sound still gave him chills.

And that’s when it happened.
