“Eh, I think we’ll save that for his next visit.”

“Next visit?”

“Sure. I am his daughter, after all. As much as I’d like to pretend this is a one-off occasion, chances are he’ll be visiting a lot.”

Sam had to sit down at the thought of frequent visits from that scary man, who just so happened to be his mate’s father.

What had he done to deserve this?

A few moments later, Merry dragged him into the living room and set about introducing her father to Sam.

Unfortunately, Sam lost the ability to see and hear the minute he heard the names of his future father-in-law.

“Sam, this is my father, Lucifer, otherwise known as Satan, the Prince of Darkness, Lord of the Nine Realms of Hell, and The Beast. Dad, this is my—Sam? Sam? Are you okay? Sam?”

Sam blinked and discovered he was lying flat on his back in the middle of the floor. “What happened?”

“You fainted, son.”

He heard the words, but they didn’t quite compute. “Wolves don’t faint.”

“Well, then, you fell down rather abruptly,” Merry said, “and right in the middle of introductions too.”

That’s when memory rushed back in to fill all the blank spaces in Sam’s head.

Lucifer.

Satan.

Prince of Darkness.

Lord of the Nine Realms of Hell.

The Beast.

Was.

His.

Future.

Father.

In.

Law.

Everything went dark again.

“Sam? Sam?”

“Just leave him there, Merry. He’ll come around when he’s ready.”

“It seems a bit mean to just leave him on the floor.”

“Eh, the cats will keep him warm. Besides, this gives me a chance to catch up on what’s going on in your life. Come on over here and tell me all about this sad, fragile, wee little wolf you’ve been shacking up with.”

“Dad! We’re not shacking up. We’re just—enjoying ourselves.”
