“What?” I screeched.

She grabbed my hand and tugged me to a floor of the house I hadn’t explored, one that turned out to be a huge ballroom.

My mouth dropped. “You have a freakingballroomin your house!”

“Uh, yeah, where do you think we hold our events at?” she asked like it made total sense.

As she continued on to the far side of the ballroom, I tilted my head back and looked up at the crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceilings with wooden paneling with beautiful designs carved and painted into them.

Caleb reached towards me like he was going to dance with me, but Fox stepped between us and wagged his finger at him. “Nu-uh. She won’t learn how to dance if she’s with you. You’ll distract her and seduce her instead of teaching her to dance.”

Caleb scowled. “Would not.”

Fox rolled his eyes. “Son, I was in your shoes. Yes, you would. Intentionally or not. She needs to learn to dance, so I’m going to be her partner and you’re going to dance with your mom so she can watch and learn as well as have a partner who wants her to learn.”

Caleb pouted and stomped over to his mom. “Fine.”

“You can dance and seduce her tomorrow,” Jolie said and patted his arm.

My mouth dropped open and my face warmed at the statement, which made Jolie laugh.

Music started playing and I listened to the classical song a moment before calling out the title and composer.

“Well, that’s a start,” Fox said. He bowed at the waist and held out a hand. “May I have this dance, milady?” When I didn’t move, he said, “You can just nod or say, ‘you may.’”

“Sure,” I said instead.

He laughed. “That works, too.” Stepping forward, he put a hand on my waist, put my hand on his shoulder, then took my other hand in his and held it up to the side. “This is the correct dancing position. Back straight and smile on your face.”

I tried, but just grimaced.

“Good effort.”

“Fox will lead, so try to follow his movements. It’s follow the leader.”

“I didn’t play that.”

“Just try to mimic him,” Caleb said. “But the most basic dance is this one.”

Jolie and Caleb got into the position, their backs perfectly straight and smiles on their faces. They waited a beat and then started moving in a dance that was beautiful and carried them around the room.

I watched, entranced by how well they moved.

“Watch their feet,” Fox ordered me. “It’s a four-step movement in time with the music.”

As soon as he said that, I gasped. “Oh! I think I get it.”

“Would you like to try?” he asked.

I nodded.

“Deep breath, this is just practice. We were all trained over hours of grueling instruction. It’s okay if you don’t pick it up right away.”

“Okay,” I said and nodded again.

He took a step forward and I matched, moving my matching foot a step back. “Good!” he praised.

Before I knew it, we were spinning around the dancefloor as well and a true smile was on my face.
