“We had a security breach.”

“How come?” My tone of voice became firmer and more rigid.

“The party was invaded, and they took Pietra.”

“Are you kidding me?” I raised my voice. I couldn't believe my own ears.

“Unfortunately, not.”

“This house is safe; it has always been safe. What are your fucking toys for if they can't even guarantee that?!” I gritted my teeth, snorting like an animal and at the same time very worried. I collected too many enemies and had a huge list of candidates to harm my daughter.

“With a party this size, people coming and going all the time, lots of vendors. It is difficult to control each of them.Even more so when wearing masks, which means my facial recognition system doesn't work.”

“You should have gone against that idea.”

“I didn't see any harm in complying with the girls' wishes.”

“So, where the fuck is my daughter?!” I grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and with my other hand I hit the wall behind him.

“Calm down, Marco. We’ll find her.”

“If something happens to Pietra...”

“One of them stayed behind.” Theo approached us. “We found the guy in the bathroom unconscious.”

“Any soldiers we know?”

“No. You won't believe it when you see who it is.” Theo gestured for us to follow him.

Chapter forty-six

I reflexively opened my eyes as ice-cold water was splashed on my face. I tried to move, but I noticed that my arms and legs were chained so that I was holding them open. The chains that bound me were thick and no matter how hard I tried; I wouldn't be able to free myself.

My eyes were still unfocused, and I had to blink a few times to identify that I was in a large warehouse, with just a light bulb on the ceiling and in front of me, growling like a rabid dog, was Marco Bellucci.

He hit me squarely in the cheek with a punch that caused my head to snap to the side and my neck to crack.

“Where is my daughter, you bastard?!”

“Did something happen to Pietra?” I opened my eyes wide and felt my heart stop beating.

“Where did you take her?”

“Who took her from the mansion?”

I was face to face with the boss of the Italian mafia, I was chained up and he didn't seem receptive to my presence, but I could only be overcome by despair that something could have happened to her.

“Where is Pietra?” I felt another punch that stunned me and made me spit out some blood. “Where did your men take her?”

“I don't know.” I was having difficulty breathing, while the worst possible outcomes were playing in my mind.

I believed Pietra would be safe at home, but all I could do was regret not taking her to Russia sooner.

“Did you take my daughter to destroy me?”

“No.”

“Why did your men leave you behind?”
