“You and I both know I did not come here for a doctor.”

“Well, here I am, and you haven’t told me what you are here for, so I think I should leave. This is a waste of time.”

Angelo got to his feet, stopping me in my tracks. He approached me and touched my cheek softly. “I came here to apologize… And then I saw that the woman who I was supposed to apologize to is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. Now, it is simple: you will become mine.”

I was frozen in place, still feeling his touch on my skin. He was only a few inches away from me and I needed some space to think clearly.

“I’m not interested,” I replied, finally pulling away from him. A small part of me hesitated. The man literally smelled of money, and he would be able to help out with some of my expenses. But at the same time, I did not like the way he was portraying himself at all. He had not come to ask; he had come to take. He believed it was in his power to do so, and I could not refuse him. “Sorry.”

“It wasn’t a request.”

“And I refuse either way,” I replied, a little shocked at his brazen attitude.

“Well, it might come as a surprise to you, but I do not take no for an answer.”

“I don’t fucking care.” I turned the door handle to walk out and saw that it did not move. Benny had held it from the outside.

“Oh, you’re a sassy little one, aren’t you?” He said with a small laugh. “You were hit by a car, weren't you?” Angelo continued but this time with a more serious look. “As I said, it was fate that led us together, however terrible the circumstances were.”

I turned back to him, wondering how he knew. Then it struck me. “You were the driver.”

“No, I was not. Benny outside—he was the one driving. I was in the back. I wanted to stop and make sure that you were okay, but the circumstances did not allow me to.”

I was shocked to say the least. The man I had tried so hard to find had actually found me. I walked over to him and slapped him across the face with my one good arm. Either Angelo had not seen it coming, or he did not expect me to go through with it, because it was one of the best slaps I had ever dished out, and I enjoyed the confusion crossing his face. He reached up and touched the side of his face, then smiled.

“You’ve got a really strong arm.”

The door behind me opened and he waved a hand, telling the Benny man to close it again. I looked back to see the man freeze and do as had been ordered. I realized that Benny was not just his friend, he was some sort of security. I turned back to Angelo; he was the man who had scared Johnny.

“Who are you?”

“Angelo Preston, here to apologize for hitting you with my car,” Angelo replied.

“I got a fracture because of you! I should take you to the police right now for a hit and run!”

“Yeah, you could do that. Honestly, I have no way to stop you from doing that. Which is why I have come to offer my apology,” Angelo said.

“You call that an apology? You were hitting on me! Please, get out,” I said, trying to calm myself. I had no idea who he was, and even though I wanted to find him, now that I had, I was starting to regret it. “Get out before I call security!”

Angelo nodded to Benny, and the man walked into the room, pulling out an envelope from his inner suit pocket. He placed it on the clipboard in my hands and walked towards Angelo. I looked down at it and saw the green showing from inside it. Angelo began walking out of the room, then he stopped and turned back to me. “That is for whatever expenses you may have accrued in the process of treating your arm.”

“Well, I would say thank you, but it was your fault, wasn’t it? Watch where you are driving next time!” I yelled, turning to Benny, who bowed his head. “You hear me?” I felt frustrated by this man. He was too cocky for his own good and screamed danger. Yet, he seemed guilty enough to come and apologize, handing me the envelope.

“Trust me, if we could have done any better, we would have.” Angelo smiled again and reached for my hand. I pulled away, not wanting him to touch me. The man looked at me with a dark look on his face, as though no one could say no to him. “How about you come over to my loft, and have lunch with me?”

“Absolutely not,” I replied like he was insane. I was not going to be another one of the people who would just bend over for men like him. He was probably used to getting everything he wanted, and I would make sure to be the exception.

“Alright then, Maria. As I already mentioned, I always get what I desire, so I have a feeling that you and I will be seeing much more of each other regardless,” he said confidently.

“I certainly hope not. The first time we met, you nearly killed me,” I replied. “I do not want to deal with that type of punishment anymore.”

Angelo smiled darkly at the word. He came closer, kissed the right side of my cheek, a little too close to my mouth. I felt his soft lips against them, and he looked up to lock eyes with me. “You take care of yourself, Maria. I’ll be seeing you soon.”

I was left breathless, watching as the man walked out of the room. A part of me screamed that I shouldn’t see him again, but the fear that this wouldn’t come true lingered as I went on with my day.
