“With your mother, Alpha.”

“What? Why? When?”

“She came by about an hour ago and picked up Quinn and Maddie. She said they were going back to her place, and since Brad was going to be there, they should be fine. She said she told you, and you were fine with it.”

My wolf surfaces, causing hair to burst out of my arms. My wolf wants to run and find them, but they have an hour's head start. Power pours out of me, forcing the warrior to bend in submission.

“You didn’t think to inform me? You didn't think to double-check that this is what I wanted? Are you so incapable of your job that you don't know how to double-check something?”

He tilts his head to the side to show his neck, submitting to my authority, but I don’t care about that. I just want Quinn and Maddie to be safe. I may be acting irrationally, because I know these guys know how to do their job well, but to just let them walk away…ugh, I need to find them.

“I’m sorry, Alpha! It won’t happen again.”

“No, it won’t. Round everyone up. We need to head to the pack house.”

“Of course, Alpha.”

This whole situation is a damn mess. I know she isn’t with Mom because she thinks she is the only one who can fix this. We should have been doing this together, but my dumb ass broke her trust. By the end of this, she will know for sure that I love her, that I love our daughter, and we will face life together no matter what. I pick up my phone to call Mom, hoping she has better answers about where Quinn is. I'm beyond mad that she didn’t call me about this change in plans, and I am hurt that she didn't trust me enough to tell me. It's one thing not having Quinn trust me, but my own mother? I know where Quinn went…she went to give herself up. She thinks this is the only way to save Maddie; I can't help but be inspired by her bravery, though it is also stupid. Very, very stupid. The phone rings longer than I would like before Mom picks up.

“Hello?”

“Where are they?”

“Calm down, Eli.”

“Calm down! I come home to an empty house, and the only information I have is that my mother came and picked up my true mate and daughter—lying about where they were going as well, because I know damn well you are not at your house.”

“True mate?”

“Yes, Quinn is my true mate.”

“Son, why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because this whole thing is a damn shit show. At first, I was trying to protect Quinn. Then, three years later, Jake decided to try and take Quinn and threaten my daughter.”

“Daddy?” My heart stopped. Did Maddie just…did she just call me…?

“Princess?”

“Hi, Daddy!”

“Princess! Are you ok?”

“Yeah! Mimi and I play tea potty.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. “Tea party?”

“Yeah. Pengy got messy.”

“Oh dear, maybe Mimi can wash him up.”

“Yeah, ok. Bye!”

I crave the feeling of holding her in my arms to know for sure she is safe. To have her little hands scrub my face because she likes the feel of my beard.

“Eli?”

“Where are you, Mom? I'll send half the pack to your location to ensure your safety.”
