“It’s just a spike,” Crew murmured, taking a step back.

“Breathe, little one,” Rhett whispered, removing his hands from my body.

With a broken little whine that I absolutely loathed, I swayed toward him.

“No,” he barked, the sharp bite in his words stilling me.

I flinched away from the tone, swallowing another one of those needy cries before it bubbled to the surface.

Ugh. I hated that sound.

Kellan coughed, the sound strangled, making me look up. He flashed me a grimace. “Sorry, baby, I don’t have the willpower these two do.” He was pressed against the far wall, but looked like he was in actual pain as he held himself back, his hand reaching for the door like he was about to leave.

Panic spiked in my blood so hard and fast that it left me dizzy. He couldn’t leave. I’d crawl after him if I had to.

The partially rational side of my brain still operating knew I sounded more dramatic than a soap opera heroine, but I didn’t care.

“Hazel, the call button is to your left,” Rhett said, his voice tight. “Perhaps the doctor can give you something to help take the edge off.”

“She can’t take suppressants,” Crew shot the idea down.

“Nor would I want her to,” Rhett said. The warm timbre of his voice combined with the British accent was freaking everything. “We all know how heats work, but there are therapies that can help ease her through this period.”

Kellan groaned, a sheen of sweat across his brow. “But none of them will stop her heat.”

My insides gave a small cramp. I reached for the call button, pressing it with shaking hands. “Look, I’ll try anything. Even black market shit.”

“Absolutely not,” Rhett snapped. “Since suppressants have been heavily regulated by the government, and are only available through legal channels under extreme circumstances, those available for purchase in back alleys are often more dangerous than not.”

I clenched my teeth as another cramp hit. “Not really caring right now.” I shook my head, desperation shredding my lungs until I was gasping for air. “I won’t go through that again.” I couldn’t survive another heat without something to help me.

Make that someone.

Preferably someone in this room.

Or all of them.

Wetness gushed between my legs, my scent becoming even more suffocating.

“Shit,” Rhett mumbled. “Darling, I need to get up?—”

“No,” I growled, turning to glare at him. His gray irises were almost completely eclipsed by his blown wide pupils. His broad chest heaved with each breath, and I spotted the steady pulse throbbing in his neck.

My mouth went dry with the crippling need to taste him. To feel his flavor explode on my tongue.

Strong hands clamped down on my shoulders. “Get up now, Rhett,” Crew ordered.

Rhett scrambled off the bed, stalking across the room to join Kellan.

Frustrated tears blurred my vision as I turned to the last man standing. “Crew, please.”

His jaw was granite and his hands shook where he touched me. “Hazel, listen to me. You don’t want this.”

“Yes, I do,” I argued. I licked my lips, my gaze dropping to his full lips and the stubble shadowing his jaw. I really needed to know what it would feel like as that stubble scraped over my skin, following whatever path his lips and tongue mapped across my flesh.

More slick trickled from my core, soaking through the underwear and cotton pants I wore.

Crew’s eyelids slid shut, a rough groan falling from his lips. His resolve was crumbling. I just needed to push a little more and?—
