“Let me have your IDs and I’ll get you into the system,” Alaric said.

“I don’t have an ID,” Alanah said.

“We’ll get you one,” Serena said, “but for now don’t worry about it.”

Alanah looked at Ronan, who was gazing at her with a look of pure devotion mixed with desire. Damn, she wished they weren’t in a room full of people right now.

Even though she knew what she needed to do was rest and heal fully.

“Our things are at the campground,” Sylas said.

“We can go get them after we figure out what to do about Alpha Black,” Ronan said, not taking his heated gaze from Alanah.

Serena rose to her feet and handed the plate of food to Alanah. “I want to be selfish and ask you to spend time with me, but I also know how it feels to find your truemate, and also that you’re clearly still healing. So maybe we can meet tomorrow, say for lunch?”

Alanah looked at Ronan who nodded.

“That works for us,” she said.

“I’m so glad you’re here,” Serena said. “Do you know what happened to Mom and Dad?”

“I don’t,” she said. “They were locked up in the jail, but at some point they were taken out and I don’t know what happened to them.”

“We’ll get to the bottom of things,” Serena said.

“How will you do that?” Taryn asked.

“Well…I’m not sure,” she said with a chuckle. “But I can reach out to them and see if they answer. If they don’t, maybe we won’t ever know what happened. I just can’t believe the king treated you so badly.”

“Me either.”

It took about ten minutes for them to get assigned rooms on the fourteenth floor, and in that time, Sylas brought the little bird inside so she could tend to it. Her fairy magic was related to small animals, and included the ability to heal injuries. She could heal most any injury, including the broken wing of her new little friend.

She laid her fingertips gently on the broken wing, being careful not to put any extra pressure on it and cause it pain. Closing her eyes, she touched the magical part of herself and felt her magic bloom within her. She focused on the broken wing, seeing it in her mind’s eye, and let her magic enter the bird to heal it. In moments, the break was healed as if it had never been injured at all. Pulling her magic back into herself the way someone might inhale fresh air deeply, she lifted her fingers from the wing and opened her eyes.

The bird hopped around, testing its wing, then chirped happily.

“He said thank you for bringing him along,” she said.

“You can really understand them?” Ronan asked.

“Yep.” She sighed and closed her eyes, letting her head fall to her chest for a moment.

“You okay?” he asked.

“Tired. And still hungry and thirsty.”

“You can order room service in the suite,” Serena said. They parted ways at the elevator bay, the bird perched on Alanah’s shoulder while Ronan held her in his arms, refusing to allow her to walk. “I’ll see you tomorrow. Reach out if you need anything.” To Ronan, she said, “A good rest will get her body back on track, I’m sure. You can call the front desk and ask for me or Galen if you need anything.”

“Thanks for everything, we appreciate it.”

Up on the fourteenth floor, he and his siblings found their rooms, all on the same side. He unlocked the door and carried her inside, setting her on a plush couch.

“Sy?” he called out into the hall, leaning out the door.

“Yeah?”

“Let me know when you get back from the campground.”
