“Ooh, I like your sex kitten ways, babe.” His plan would work either way. He knew what was in his heart. Her. She filled him up like he’d never been filled before.

She tugged him back. “Wait, how did it go with your foster parents?”

He told her everything, his throat growing thick again. “They invited us for Thanksgiving.”

“Of course. That makes so much sense. How do you feel?”

“Free and loved. So loved, Maddy.”

Her face softened, and she cupped his face. “That’s because you are. Me, your foster parents, a whole big honking team of tough guys, and my parents,” she murmured.

Hours later, with remnants of their pizza dinner in the box on the floor, night sounds filtered in through the open windows, mixed in with the wash of waves from the beach. Maddy shifted her head on his shoulder, then slowly smoothed her hand up the wall of his chest. He trapped her wandering hand beneath his, and she smiled.

He caressed her hand, then raised it to his mouth and kissed her fingertips. “What is so amusing, kitty cat?”

Rising up on one elbow, she looked down at him, her sweet face in the muted illuminated light from the moon. “I’m smiling because I’m incandescently happy, because I’m here with you, and everything is looking so wonderful.” She leaned down and kissed him on the mouth, running her freed hand back up his rib cage. “And that you, as big and male as you are, happen to be ticklish,” she whispered against his mouth.

He gave a huff of laughter and caught her hand again, holding it secure against his chest. “Stop it or I’ll take you out and drown you in the ocean.”

Shaking back her hair, she grinned down at him. “No, you won’t. You stopped bullets for me. The jig is up.”

They had made love three times in the past three hours, and he’d found that he’d faced and conquered his dark shadows: Not seeing what was good, over-identifying with emotions, and seeking understanding in ways that prevented it. He’d fully integrated his pain and moved on from it. He was all about focusing on what he had both with Maddy, and his own unique qualities, working on concentrating outside himself to listen to others and empathize more, and especially strengthening his relationships through mutual understanding.

“Why are you smiling? Is it because you conquered your shadows?” She rubbed her fingertips along his jaw as the sheet fell away from her beautiful breasts. He reached out and tweaked her nipple, and she made a soft, sexy sound.

“Yes, you were the light that I followed, Maddy. So bright and beautiful. I love you more than my own life. I’m smiling because…” He reached into his nightstand drawer. “...I’m asking you to marry me, to be my wife and my love for the rest of our lives.”

She gasped when she eagerly took the black box from his hand and opened it. A white piece of paper popped up. She took it out of the box and opened it, reading it aloud. “The sparkle in her eyes, it does play a game/Cedar-sighted, earthen outlook, malt-musing tender gaze/The evening dust, yet still a-stirring./Reflected by the setting sun ablaze./Honey molten, darkly golden, sweetly staring soft appeals/Beneath her brow from deep-sown fields row/fertile irises promising yields.” She sighed. “How beautiful.”

Leaning over, she kissed him softly, lingering. Finally, she looked at the ring. She didn’t move a muscle. She stared at it, and when she smiled, he closed his eyes and hugged her fiercely against him. Her chest expanded, and she tightened her arms around him. “You are the only man for me. God, yes.”

He got instantly hard, inhaling deeply with so much satisfaction he pretty much expected to explode. He took the ring out and slipped it on her finger, a band encrusted with diamonds. It cost him a good portion of his combat pay, but she was worth every penny…and more. Catching her under the chin, he lifted her head and stared into her eyes.

She smiled and touched his mouth. “I’m so glad you were on the team that came to protect us. I found out so much about myself that I would never have had the courage to face if I wasn’t so in love with you.”

“Like being a sex kitten?” he asked with a smile.

She dug into his ribs, and he convulsed on the bed, grabbing her hands. “You are so bad,” she whispered.

“That’s what you love about me.” Without any warning, he took her nipple into his mouth and sucked her hard.

She fell back under his onslaught and cried out. He covered her, finding her wet and ready for him, and as she opened for him, wrapping her legs around him, he pumped into her in uncontrollable thrusts, penetrating her deep, claiming her in both his body and his heart.

“I love you, Maddy. Love you. Love you so fucking much,” he whispered as she accepted him inside her, meeting each thick drive of his hips with a push of her own, her pleasure driving him crazy.

She fiercely took his face between her hands, stroking his cheekbones, devouring his mouth and biting his lips, sucking his tongue, then slipping her hands into his hair and clutching the strands so tight it was almost painful. He groaned at the exquisite pleasure of their connection, their intimacy, which would be his as they moved through their life in a wonder of a love that knew no bounds. She was limitless energy and maddening, outrageous fun, and she infused him with the same light, until he forgot what the shadows had even felt like.

He gave himself to her in that last push before they found bliss in each other’s arms. His sex kitten, the love of his life…Maddy.
