I walked up there with my hands covering my face, then he asked me to sit on the stool. He told everyone a little about me.

“Everyone make sure to have those cameras out to catch this new song that isn’t even released yet. This song is called Right Person, Wrong Time.”

The applause began to die down when I heard someone start playing it on an acoustic guitar. It was supposed to be an entire band arrangement, so I was a bit confused. I started looking around, then I saw him. Link was playing my song… the one I wrote about him. I looked at Elijah.

“Everyone, please welcome my best friend, Lincoln Marx. He will be performing this amazing song for you all today.”

Elijah looked over at me and smirked. I looked out at my family and friends but could barely see them through the tears that were forming. I thought I was the one surprising Link tonight but he was the one who surprised me. He walked up next to me, never taking his eyes off me.

“Hey Songbird,” he said with a smile.

I was sobbing uncontrollably. It felt like I was in a dream. My mind was racing. He began singing my song…our song. He told me he wasn't any good at singing or playing but his confidence is saying otherwise. His voice was sultry and smooth.

He continued to stare into my eyes and I felt my heart swelling with every note he played. After he finished playing I stood up trying to reach for him. Instead of letting me, he held me at arm’s length and started speaking to the crowd.

“If I could just have everyone’s attention. I’m going to hijack this concert for a moment. I hope everyone doesn’t mind.”

A string of applause and other cheers erupted. Just as it began to dissipate, he turned to me and pulled out a letter.

“Aubrey, I promised I would write you letters so we would always be connected in some way. I thought what I had to share today should be written in a letter and we could keep it forever.” Then he took a breath and began to read.

“A little less than six months ago, you walked into my life like a tornado and changed everything I thought I knew about myself. You took over my thoughts. You took over my life, and most of all, you took over my heart. You showed me what love was. You showed me how it felt to not only love someone but have that same kind of love reciprocated.”

I didn’t think I could sob more than I already was, but here I am, barely breathing.

“We tried to make it work, but I failed you rather quickly. I didn’t listen to my heart, and I let you get away because of my stupid ego. I wasn’t ready to talk about the sacrifices or I should say changes–because nothing is a sacrifice when it comes to you. I wasn’t ready to talk about what this relationship becoming something more would take. I pushed you away before you could leave me, and I was stupid.”

He paused and took a breath.

“I got the help I needed, and I don’t need any more time to figure this out. I don’t need to give this any more time to blow over. You are my best friend.”

Elijah gasped jokingly, like he was offended, and the whole place started laughing, but Link continued.

“I know what I want, and what I want is you. I made all the changes necessary to make this work. I am ready to be the man you deserve now and forever. I have spent the last few months closing all the loose ends in Tennessee so I can be all in and be wherever you are. Now we can both live here and visit Tennessee together.”

He pulled me closer and put his hand on my cheek while he ran his thumb across my bottom lip.

“Songbird, I’m yours forever. I am moving here and getting a job in Connecticut, so we don’t need to worry about distance. Nick is letting me stay with him until I find somewhere to live. I honestly haven't looked much because I’m waiting to find somewhere with you. I never want to be without you.”

My heart was blowing up. I can’t believe this man is mine.

“I know what it’s like to breathe your air. I know what it’s like to kiss those lips, and I know what it feels like to wake up next to you and what it feels like looking into your beautiful eyes. It feels like home. Sometimes home isn’t the four walls where you live. Sometimes it is the two eyes you look into and the heartbeat that fuels your soul. You are my home, baby.”

He paused again to clear his throat. His eyes were shining with unshed tears.

“I love you, Aubrey Lynn Miller. If you will have me, I’m yours. Now, forever, and always.”

The entire venue was quiet.

I took a breath so I could calm down. I put my hands into his and looked him right in his eyes.

“Lincoln Matthew Marx. I cannot wait to love you forever, no matter where we are. I am yours, and you are mine.”

The crowd erupted into applause and awe. There were all kinds of whistling and hollering. I jumped into his arms for a kiss, and it felt like fireworks, it was just like the first time all over again.

The band started playing again, which was our sign to move out of the way. Once we finally walked off stage, he took me to the green room. I turned to him the moment the door shut.

“How…How did you get everyone to keep this from me?”
