He smirked. “They all knew how important this was. Not only to me but to you.”

I walked up to him and kissed him again. I looked up at him in disbelief. “You practiced the guitar… you learned how to play the song… I can’t believe—” More tears started to fall, so I looked down because I couldn’t even get the rest of my words out.

He lifted my chin to look me in the eyes.

“I’ll do anything and everything for the rest of my life to ensure you know how much I love you. I love you so much, Songbird.”

I put my arms around his neck. “I don’t know how a proposal will ever top this.”

He chuckled. I leaned in to kiss him. “I love you more, Grumpy Butt.”

EPILOGUE

Six Months Later

December

It’s been almost a year since I learned about Pops, and my life changed forever. Link and I visited them for a long weekend once so far. We are closer than ever, despite being so far apart.

It’s been amazing living with Link. We found a place just for us rather quickly. As much as I love Callie, and will always be there for her, I couldn’t handle her Jake drama. Sadly though, they broke up and moved out soon after I did, so it was the right move.

Link and I found the most perfect three-bedroom house justa few towns away from my parents, Callie, and Nick. We made one of the rooms into a music room. I now run my own business teaching music, and he got a job at the local high school. He is the new drama teacher there. He was planning on working with Nick part-time, but when this full-time job opened up, he had to take it.

We still run together all the time, although getting out of bed is a bit harder now because I much prefer morning sex to running. One thing that hasn’t changed is that he still writes me letters all the time. He leaves them on my pillow every week. He says that the letters will never get boring, and so far, he’s right.

Everyone is here. Mom and Dad, of course. Pops and Liza are staying until the New Year, so we have some extra time to spend with them. They are staying in my old room at my parents’ house. The four of them are like best friends. It’s the cutest thing ever. I think they are going on a cruise together or something next year.

Brielle is home from college. Nick and Callie are here of course. They have something weird going on between them and haven’t shared exactly what. Callie’s mom is here. She is being super helpful with the food as always. We even invited Elijah and the band since the band’s last show of the year was just a few days ago in Philly. He was going to be alone on Christmas, and we couldn’t have that.

I was standing in the kitchen doing a few things when I heard Link’s sexy ass voice.

“Need any help, Songbird?” He kissed right below my ear in my favorite spot and hugged me around the waist from behind. His hands scaled up my body trying to feel me up like he always does.

I hummed from his warmth. “No, baby.” I turned in his arms so we were facing each other “As good as you are at most things, you suck at cooking, and I don’t want to poison our guests.” He pulled me in and tickled my side as he pinched my butt.

“Are you talking shit, Songbird?” Then he kissed me and whispered on my lips, “If you’re talking shit, I’m going to have to punish you later.”

I leaned into him and whispered back. “I can’t wait.” I kissed his nose and pushed him away followed by a wink. “Now go entertain everyone so I can finish.”

He whined. “But they like you better.”

“Everyone in there loves you, so hush it and suck it up.” I laughed as he walked out.

After dinner, we moved to the living room to give our Secret Santa gifts. I got Link a watch because I broke his when I knocked it off the nightstand in the middle of one of our sexcapades. He told me not to worry about it but I felt absolutely horrible since it was his favorite. He said I could break anything I wanted as long as I always screamed like that when he made me cum.

Callie was leaning against the counter while I was cleaning up some dishes after almost everyone left. She was looking into the living room, and I could tell her head was spinning. She has gone through a lot lately, and I think she’s still processing everything. Callie and Nick are acting weird, but I am trying not to pry. They have been getting along amazingly since he helped her after her breakup with Jake. There has even been a new development in their relationship.

They haven’t said anything was wrong, but they are acting like strangers today.

I put the dishrag down and leaned in beside her. I nudged her shoulder to get her to look at me. “You gonna tell me what’s up willingly, or are you going to make me pull it out of you?”

“What? What do you mean?” She looked genuinely confused.

I got quieter so no one else would hear us. “Cal, you look sad. And you look especially sad while looking at Nick. What happened? You guys barely spoke today. The last time I saw you guys, you were announcing your relationship to people, the way you are acting today was a complete one-eighty.”

“I’m not sad, Aubs; I just wish things were a bit different. We are going through some stuff and I don’t know if it will ever get better.”
