The first thing I saw when I walked into the karaoke bar was Elijah talking to the bartender, and I prayed that Lincoln wasn't with him. I didn't see him, but I was nervous because he was Lincoln's friend. Right about now, he's probably going to text him to tell him I'm here. When he spotted me, he smiled and started walking over to me. He placed his arm around my shoulder.

"Looking good, girl." Then he looked at Brie with a shit-eating grin. He looked her up and down. He stood up straight, taking his arm off me. "Who's your cute friend?"

"My baby sister." I poked him in his ribs. "So, hands off, Casanova."

He raised his hands in defense with a smirk and gave the loudest, most resounding laugh I think I've ever heard. "Yes, mom… I apologize…now let me buy your drinks."

She stuck out her hand for him to shake. "The name is Brielle. Please call me Brie, and I'll take a coke."

"No alcohol… I can dig it. I love a woman who knows what she wants." He grabbed Brie's hand and kissed the back of it.

"My name is Elijah. You can call me Eli."

I slapped his chest with the back of my hand. "Why was I never told to call you Eli? Wait… Lincoln doesn't even call you Eli."

"It's reserved for special ladies." He raised his brows.

I poked him in the ribs again. “Ok, Casanova, we get it…She's twenty, and I'll have a margarita."

"Coming right up, ladies… Aubrey, go join everyone over there."

He bowed as he walked away. What is with these Tennessee boys and their bowing?

Brie nudged me. "He's definitely a player…too bad, he's so fucking hot."

I laughed, "Yes, he's very handsome, but he is way too old for you, so don’t even think about it. He’s Lincoln's best friend, if you can even call him that. He's in that band I was telling you about that I want to see in June."

“Don’t worry about it. I am not dating anyone anytime soon.” Brie said.

I looked over where Elijah had gestured and saw Lincoln with a beautiful brunette whispering in his ear. She has that beautiful nerdy thing going on like Brie. He looked like he was laughing and having fun; the last thing I wanted to do was change that.

I waited for Elijah to return with our drinks and told him we would sit near the stage. He nodded without commenting. I’m sure he knew why.

"See you around, Brie. I hope," He said as he moved away from us.

She laughed. "See ya, Eli."

I asked Elijah if he could not mention that I was there, and he agreed, but true to bros before hoes, I saw him gesture toward us as soon as he went over there.

Lincoln looked over, and I saw the smile leave his face when he saw me. He waved. I waved back. He gestured for me to come over, but I waved him off, mouthing, “It’s okay; enjoy your night.”

"Please," he mouthed.

I looked over at Brie and asked if she wanted to go over, and of course, she said yes. She likes making me uncomfortable. I introduced everyone to Brie. They became immediately obsessed like everyone she meets. Everyone was asking her all kinds of questions, and most of them were hitting on her. Story of my life, honestly, but it was good to see her socializing. She doesn't do it much.

I saw Elijah move to the seat next to her, and he put his arm around the back of it. I pointed and gave him the evil eye; he removed it and gave that contagious laugh again.

I was about to go over and talk to Lincoln, but I felt a hand on my arm.

"So sorry to hear about you and Linky."

Ugh! Fucking Kayla.

I should have seen this coming. Kayla was too friendly earlier, and I'm sure it was all fake. Someone must have told her about Lincoln and me, and now she thinks she's got an in again.

I rolled my eyes, not bothering to hide it. "I'm sure you are, Kayla. Thanks for your concern, but I'm fine," I said in a condescending tone. The only saving grace in this conversation is that I know he wants nothing to do with her whether we are together or not.

She walked away, swaying her hips, and sat in the chair next to him where I was headed. About a second later, he got up to come over to me. I couldn't help but snicker and cover my lips with my hand to cover the smile. I know she saw me. Her face turned a very bright shade of red. I’m not sure if it was embarrassment or anger, maybe both. Either way, I don't give a shit.
