I shook my head, my heart still pounding in my chest.

“No, he had a vision, Orion,” Mom whispered to him, her voice laced with worry.

Dad looked at me, his face twisted with concern. “When do you suppose he’ll make his move?”

I shook my head again. “I have no idea. I only know he’s planning to target her to retaliate against me for what I did to him. And if he discovers she’s pregnant, that’ll make her an even bigger target.”

Mom placed her hand on my father’s shoulder. “I’ll make her a potion. One similar to what I used when Chios was here. It won’t be as strong. Brady will still be able to scent her and the baby, but no one else will.”

“And what about her patrols?” I asked, my teeth grinding at the thought of her out there alone.

“She’ll pause her patrols. I’ll issue the order myself, citing her pregnancy as the reason,” Dad declared, his tone final. “Given that her pregnancy is complicated, it will serve as a perfect pretext to the pack for why she is relieved from duty. If we must, I will order all pregnant women to stay within the borders.”

I nodded, though I was well aware that Madie might not take the news well. It was for the best. Until we could neutralize the threat that Tristan posed to her, she wouldn’t be safe to resume normal duties of a Gamma.

“Thank you,” I sighed, relief washing over me.

Dad pulled his chair back and scrubbed his hand down his face. “Perhaps I should cancel my plans and stay here.”

“You can’t,” Mom sighed and shook her head. “We need this alliance, and one of us has to personally invite the girl to the school. We can handle things until you return. Your duty as Alpha in this situation is with the Snow wolf pack.”

Dad sighed and nodded. His eyes misted over, and I knew immediately he was mindlinking Edwardo. A few moments later, the beta was walking through the door.

“Make sure you support Brady in anything he needs, Edwardo. Madie will be on immediate maternity leave starting today. Her duties are to be packhouse bound. Anything outside of going to the crones is to be restricted to her until further notice.”

Edwardo’s eyes widened, but he quickly nodded in agreement with my father’s orders. “Yes, sir. Will there be anything else?”

Dad nodded. “Keep a closer eye out for Tristan. He knows that Madie is Brady’s mate now. He mustn’t find out she’s pregnant.”

Dad’s eyes locked with Edwardo’s, and the message was unmistakable. Keep Madie safe.

“That’ll be all,” Dad said. He turned his gaze to me and tilted his head. “Do you have something for me?”

I glanced down at the papers in my hand, nodding slowly as I handed them over. “This is everything I’ve gathered on the ancient vampire. The coordinates are accurate according to current maps. They should lead you to his last known whereabouts.”

Dad looked over the papers and nodded. “Looks like the Inuits were terrorized by him during his time around.”

I nodded. “Yeah, seems his favorite feeding was their most vulnerable.”

“That’s the way most monsters operate,” Dad said. “They always go for the children.”

I said nothing else regarding that matter. I had to get back to Madie, so with a quick nod to my parents and Edwardo, I all but ran back to my room. Only to find Madie sitting up in bed, a crease of concern marking her brow.

“What’s wrong?” I asked when I saw the crease in her brow.

“I..., I think I had a vision,” she said.

I looked at her with confusion as I walked over to get a better look at her. Her hand was resting over her stomach, and she seemed to be more confused than I was by what she was saying.

“What makes you think that?” I asked.

Her eyes, as blue as the summer sky, shifted towards me. “I think I saw our daughter.”

“Daughter?” I gasped, my gaze landing on her flat stomach.

She nodded and smiled softly as my eyes met hers again. “Aurora. And she was so beautiful. Bright red hair, and sky-blue eyes. And she had such a beautiful laugh.”

My confusion quickly fell and pride filled my chest as I leaned down and pressed my lips to Madie’s stomach.
