“Are you ready to do this?”

I look over and see him standing there in black workout shorts and a dark gray tank top. He’s always dressed in black or dark clothing. I’m not sure if it’s the persona of a rocker or if it’s what he prefers. I’m thinking back, trying to remember what he looked prior to the launching of Crave, when he interrupts my thoughts.

“You doing alright, Aud? You’re studying me awfully closely.” He’s watching me with concern, and I shake my head to clear the fog in my mind.

“Sorry.”

“You good?” he asks, making his way over to me. His arm comes around my shoulders, and he pulls me into this chest.

I relish in the smell of him, taking a moment to inhale deeply.

“Okay,” he says, “Well, maybe when you’re done getting high off me, you can tell me where you went.”

I laugh and pull back just enough to see his face. “I was just thinking about how I’ve never seen you in anything other than dark colors.”

“I tend to wear only dark clothes because that’s what I wear on stage.”

“You’re gonna be hot when we’re working out,” I point out.

“Then I’ll just lose the shirt.” He places a quick kiss on my brow before releasing me and heading down the steps. “Now, if you’re finished with your ogling, my trainer promised me a session.”

I shake my head and laugh. “Well, then your trainer better get to it.” I follow him down to the sand and begin stretching.

Derek mimics my movements. “Don’t we need weights?”

“You’ve seen me out here using weights before, huh?”

“Yeah, maybe.” He grins, and I swear it’s the cutest I’ve ever seen him look. There’s a shyness written all over his face that makes me think he’d rather die than admit that I caught him looking at me.

“How long have you been watching me?” I ask, stopping my movements and bringing my arms across my chest like armor.

“How old are you?” He asks the question like he doesn’t already know the answer.

“Derek.”

“How old are you?” He makes his way toward me like a lion stalking his prey.

“You know how old I am.”

He raises his eyebrows as if to say, Out with it.

I sigh because I know he’s more stubborn than I am. I won’t get out of this conversation without answering him. “Fine. I’m twenty-four.”

“Twelve years. That’s how long I’ve been watching you,” he admits.

The admission knocks the wind out of me. I take a step back and stare at him. “Are you serious?”

“Oh, come on, did you really think it was all so one-sided? Did you really think I was just that hard up or so easily seduced that I fell right into your bed?”

“We didn’t use a bed,” I quip.

He smirks. “We recently did not.”

I flush and he’s watching me intently. “I had no idea.”

“You weren’t supposed to. And besides, if there was anything happening there, Aiden would have cut my balls off.” We both laugh at his statement. I know he’s right. “Hell, he still might.”

“But you’re risking it anyway?”
