“We’re older than we were back then,” I sneak a look at him.
He laughs and turns his head to meet my gaze. “Yes, we are. I think we did pretty good though.”
“Oh, definitely.”
We lay there in silence for a few moments. My breathing slowly returns to normal but my body doesn’t want to move.
“I’m thinking we can put a balcony outside the room so we can drink our coffee there in the mornings. Or would you rather have a deck outside the kitchen?” Sutton asks.
My heart stutters at his words. I’m silent for a minute, figuring out how I feel about it. I don’t know why I’m even taking the minute to think about it. I love this man and he’s back home. “I think a deck would be better.”
“Yeah?” Sutton rolls back over on top of me, his smile lighting up my soul. “What about a walk-in shower?”
“I suppose we’ll need to stay at my house until the renovations are done.”
“I suppose so.” Sutton presses a kiss to my temple and pulls the sheet over us as a cool breeze comes in through the window.
I snuggle closer to him and let myself fall asleep, imagining what the future might bring.
The End
