She knew me so well and kissed my neck the way I loved. Her little noises drove me on as I moved against her with no mercy. Because she knew I loved to watch her body when we had sex, she untied the front of her dress and lay back on the table so I could have a good show. I studied her stomach as her muscles flexed when I dragged my erection over her sensitive, greedy nub. Her breasts bounced wildly, and her neck strained as she built toward her orgasm.

I hated how much I wanted her. How much I needed her.

“Eric!” she moaned, and I bit my tongue, on the edge of wanting to share my truths. I fixed one hand on her small hips and moved one to cover her heart. It was as if my unspoken words flowed through my arm, down to my hand, and passed them straight through to her heart. She would never know how much she meant to me or how much I loved her.

As the sadness kicked in, I thrust harder, taking my pain out on her, wanting her to see how much this broke me, too.

Her nails clawed at my arms as she attempted to hold on.

“Eric! Yes, more!” She had no idea of the war I kept from her. All she saw was lust, but behind my eyes was a man saying goodbye to the only woman he ever truly cared for.

“I’m going to explode!” Her legs wrapped around my waist as I hauled her upward and devoured her mouth as she came. I squeezed her harder as I came right behind her with everything I had.

When we both came back down, all that could be heard was our heavy breathing. I slowly pulled out, tucked myself away, and reached down for her shoe. I slipped it back on her small foot, and when I looked up, I found her watching me.

“I think we can make thi—”

“Goodbye, Talya.” I kissed her once more and walked quickly out of the room. I nearly ran into the waitress, who looked over my shoulder at Talya with her wild hair and flushed, brokenhearted face.

“You good, boss?” Alejandro appeared. I tossed him the keys as I walked past him, and he followed. He knew I’d be looking for a drive home.

“Yeah.” I rubbed my head and fought the urge to have one more round with Talya.

Quicksand.

“What did Filippo find out?”

“He got hold of Sal, and he’s still tryin’ to find out. He sent a girl to his room, paid her extra to go through his phone.”

“I need to know who the hell that was.”

“I know.” He held up the keys. “Ready to go home?”

“Yeah, come on.”

I tossed some bills at the waitress to assure her silence, not that she’d probably care about what she’d witnessed. I threw a wave to the bartender, and we stepped out into the hot, stuffy air.

The back of my neck prickled, and I looked back to find Talya’s eyes on me. I let the door slip from my hand, and it closed with a slap.

At least we had our goodbye.

Ty

“Ty, relax.” Ivy poked the tiny black straw between her deep red lips and drew the colorful drink into her mouth. “We’re in a building with at least fifty soldiers. If Ben was going to show himself, this wouldn’t be the place.”

“It’s not just Ben I’m worried about,” I glared at the guy who came up to gawk at Ivy’s outfit, “and though I appreciate you wearing jeans, this scrap of fabric you call a top doesn’t make my life any easier.” I allowed my gaze to roam over her sheer black halter top. It barely covered her breasts, and only a little fabric found its way down her back into her tight-as-sin black jeans. “And with those high heels, you look like you’re heading to a Maxim magazine shoot.”

“Why do men always get protective when we ladies dress sexy? I can handle myself, but I’m just going to take that as a compliment.” She rolled her eyes. “I mean, jeeze, if you had it your way, I’d be in an oversized hoodie and sweats.”

“And your point is?” I scanned the room, waiting for my opportunity to speak to the bartender. I made eye contact with Ned and Alex, who’d been sent to watch over us via Frank. He wasn’t overly pleased Ivy insisted on joining me tonight, but she wasn’t having it. So, he quietly told me we’d have extra eyes tonight.

“My point, Ty, is that I’m twenty-eight and single.”

Her words repeated in my head until they broke through my consciousness.

“Single?” I eyed her, and she gave me a playful look.

“I just wanted your attention.”
