“Fuck!” I dropped the piece of shit on the ground and stood. My fists clenched, and the rest of me stood ready to move the moment I had the chance. The frustration inside me grew.

“Give her to me,” I ordered, but the man yanked her backward as their President stepped forward.

“Not until we talk.” The two men behind him opened the door to the bar and shoved Kenna back inside and out of my view.

“Morgan,” Trigger kept his voice low, “offer what you need to.”

“Got it.” He nodded. Then Trigger headed inside the bar with Morgan, Brick, and me close behind. I sent off a quick text to Jesse to head this way, I needed to get Kenna out of here before she got any more involved.

While Morgan paid off the bartender to have our backs, and with Rail as our eyes outside, we took a seat at the huge wooden table in the far back of the bar. Kenna was pushed into a chair next to the asshole with a death wish. She was far enough away I couldn’t reach her.

“She’ll be okay.” The guy winked at me with a grin, and Brick eyed me. He knew I was close to my boiling point.

“We haven’t met yet.” The President of the Stripe Backs looked at Trigger. “Caleb. You knew my old man, Big D. His brother, my uncle, was the club’s old Pres before you killed him.”

“I did the world a favor,” Trigger grunted.

“That you did,” he agreed, then looked over at me. “You got no reason to trust me, Grim. Shit, I have one of yours.” His teeth showed as white as the streak in the beard of the guy next to him when I pulled out my switchblade. He grinned at my audacity. “I needed your attention.” He shrugged, and I moved my gaze to Kenna, whose eyes were wide with fright, but she seemed to have it together. I saw her mascara was smudged, so I knew she’d shed some tears at some point.

“Sorry,” she mouthed, and I shook my head, trying to process that she was even here.

“You have it,” I leaned back in my chair and did my best to suppress my need to break every bone in his body, “but it won’t be for long.”

“Someone’s been hiring my men to come after you.” His lips twisted like he was uneasy. “I don’t need more enemies than I got. My uncle left me plenty, and I’m no fucking saint, but as Trigger can tell you as President of the DR, I’m up against it. I wanna keep my promise to the old man and keep the Stripes alive and movin’, but I can’t do that if I’m pissin’ off the DR. I know you ride with them, but I know who you are, and I know your family. I don’t need that kind of heat.”

“Don’t.” Kenna pushed the man’s hand off her chest. He lowered his arm and, in that split second, I whipped my switchblade at him. It sliced through his bicep and into the wooden chair behind. He screamed and Kenna jumped up, but the guy on her other side grabbed her and pressed a gun to her temple.

“Touch her again, and your dick’s next,” I seethed at the whimpering fool as I pulled out another knife and turned my eyes toward the man who held the gun. “Lower it.”

“Lower it,” Caleb snarled, and the man did.

“Did you burn down my hotel?” My voice was hardly recognizable as I addressed this new Pres.

“Yes, one of my men did but as I said, it wasn’t on my order.”

“Who?” I could barely speak.

“The one you followed here, and—” Caleb pulled his gun and casually shot the man next to him in the head. A couple of his guys stepped up, but Caleb raised a hand, and they backed off.

“Don’t know who’s doing the hiring, but they pay real good. Seems they get a call, do the job, and the cash is left for them. Guess it’s too much to pass up.” He shook his head.

I gritted my teeth in frustration. He’d just killed the one man I itched to torture since the other chose to kill himself.

“Your guys at Minnie’s club a few weeks back?” Trigger’s eyes burned as he spoke. I wanted the answer to that as much as he did.

“Yeah, they were paid to find out everything they could on your girl here because of her friend.” He nodded toward Kenna. Her eyes shot over to mine then around the room.

“Me?” She looked panicked. “Why me and what friend?”

“Don’t know.” He shrugged.

“Did you know this was happening?” Trigger asked.

“No.” He looked at his Vice President, who also shrugged. “You’d have to ask him.” He pointed to the guy that bled out on the floor.

“Thanks to you, we can’t,” I growled. It wasn’t lost on me that he’d killed him before we could question him.

“A lot’s been going on,” Caleb continued. “I only just stepped into this role a short time ago. As things are coming to light, I’m dealin’ with them.”
