My hand tightens around the can and I take another sip, trying to control my temper.

“Felix Domingos is a dead man,” I say once I feel like I can talk without screaming. “There is no way that he is going to be able to come back here and lay claim to Miami.”

Rio nods and downs half his beer. “He’s been seen at the family’s old estate too. Someone said he was searching through the rubble but I don’t know what he would have been trying to find. Most of what was there is now long gone.”

“It should be. I poured more than enough gasoline through that fucking house to get it to burn to the ground.”

I finish my beer and get up to grab a second can. If Felix is lurking around a warehouse and his family home, then he is looking for something. The people I have following him aren’t doing a good enough job if they haven’t figured out what yet.

I’m going to have to give them a reminder of what their job is.

“Who do we have that can find out what he’s looking for without alerting him to what they’re going?” I ask, cracking open the drink.

“We could send Giana in deeper. Have her spend more time with him. Maybe get to know him at the club. I was speaking to her yesterday and she said that he’s been coming to see her dance every other night.”

“Why the hell is someone who should be hiding this visible? It doesn’t make sense.” I shake my head and look up at the sky. “What game do you think he’s playing?”

“Intimidation tactic. He wouldn’t be lurking around Miami if he didn’t have someone backing him.”

I run a hand down my face before sitting up straighter. “Alessio is running Atlanta right now. He might know something. He used to back the Domingos family back in the day.”

“If anybody is going to know what Felix is up to, it’s probably going to be him.”

Getting in contact with Alessio is the last thing I want to do. He’s just returned home to deal with members of his mafia that keep stepping out of line. He’s got more on his plate than I do at the moment. But he has spies everywhere. If something is going on, he knows it and he could help. His mafia is nearly three times the size of my cartel.

“Alessio probably isn’t going to be able to get involved with this,” Rio says as he finishes his own drink. “He’s your ally and a friend, but you know that he is dealing with other problems. Besides, Felix would know that you’re working with the Marchetti mafia now that Alessio is at the helm.”

“I know that, but there is nothing that I can do about it. He is the only one who might have some information I can trust. I need every advantage I can get if Felix is going to try and take Miami back.”

“Your decision, but I think if you give your people a little more time, they might be able to come up with the same information that Alessio is going to give you. He may not have the time to deal with this right now.”

I pull out my phone. “He’s a good friend. If anyone is going to come through, it’s going to be him.”

My stomach lurches as I scroll through my contacts, looking for Alessio’s number. When I find it, I hit the call button and wait while the phone rings. With each ring, I feel like calling him is even more of a bad idea.

If I were a better friend, I would leave him alone to deal with his problems in peace — step in to help him if needed. However, I’m not asking him to take time away from dealing with a potential uprising to help me.

I’ve never felt like more of a worse friend but I need to think about my people. Protecting them is my top priority.

I need to know what Felix is up to.

“Hey, Jovan,” Alessio says when the call connects. “This is kind of a bad time, as I’m sure you are aware.”

Alessio isn’t the easiest man to deal with, grumpy as fuck when things go his way, hell on earth when things go sideways, so I know what I’m getting into, but he is the only one I know who might be able to help with my Felix problem.

“Yeah, I know. I’m sorry, man, but I need your help with Felix. I want to get out ahead of this before it becomes a problem. Do you know why he has decided to return to Miami?”

“If we are going to talk about the Domingos cartel, I would like to do so in person.”

“Name the time and the place,” I say, relief coloring my voice.

“I’m going to be in Miami on the twentieth. If you want to discuss Felix, then we can set up a meeting.”

“Alright. Send me a message with the details and I’ll meet you there.”

“Will do.” He hangs up, as I finish my second beer. Rio looks at me.

“Well, that sounded like it went well,” Rio states.
